After our series of articles on the Class of 2021 who should be valued, we now shift our attention to those in the Class of 2022 and those that need to be on the radar of college coaches.
We will continue to go through each conference to try and hit as many players as possible with the hopes of helping these juniors the attention of prospective college coaches.
Carson Toebe Carson Toebe 6'3" | PG Clear Lake | 2022 State IA – Clear Lake
Clear Lake’s Carson Toebe Carson Toebe 6'3" | PG Clear Lake | 2022 State IA has all the skills to make a college coach happy. Toebe can score from all over the field and has great vision.
As a sophomore, Toebe scored 320 points for the Lions, adding 119 rebounds, 97 assists and 55 steals. He even blocked seven shots.
Toebe helped lead Clear Lake to the North Central Conference title, finishing 13-1 in league play. The Lions reached the Class 3A substate championship round and should be primed for another deep postseason run.
Connor State Connor State 6'4" | PF Clarion-Goldfield-Dows | 2022 State IA – Clarion-Goldfield/Dows
Part of a large Class of 2022 that played a key role for Clarion-Goldfield/Dows last season was Connor State Connor State 6'4" | PF Clarion-Goldfield-Dows | 2022 State IA .
State produced 319 points to go along with 147 rebounds, 45 blocks, 40 assists and 27 steals. The 6-foot-4 State shot almost 60 percent from the field and knocked down 66 percent of his free throws.
He will be one of six players returning for the Cowboys this winter who started at least 10 games a year ago.
Blake Janssen Blake Janssen 5'11" | CG Iowa Falls-Alden | 2022 State IA – Iowa Falls-Alden
Paired up alongside Class of 2021 prospect Karson Sharar Karson Sharar 6'2" | SG Iowa Falls-Alden | 2021 State IA , Blake Janssen Blake Janssen 5'11" | CG Iowa Falls-Alden | 2022 State IA gave Iowa Falls-Alden a second weapon a year ago.
Janssen, playing for head coach Michael Collison, nearly finished with over 100 points, rebounds and assists. He recorded 199 points, 102 boards and 95 assists, adding 41 steals.
Caden Matson – Humboldt
Coming off a summer in which he earned baseball honors, Humboldt’s Class of 2022 prospect Caden Matson should be primed for a big winter.
Matson scored 191 points with 76 rebounds, 35 steals and 34 assists this past year. He knocked down 17 three-pointers and shot nearly 40 percent from the field, and will be counted on for even more with the graduation of nine seniors.
Hayden Mayer – St. Edmond
St. Edmond has a long history of talented basketball players, and Hayden Mayer could be the next to join the list.
Mayer scored 134 points with 74 rebounds and 17 steals last year despite missing time due to an injury. He wasn’t afraid to mix it up in the paint against bigger and older opponents, shooting almost 54 percent from the field and 71 percent at the free throw line.
The Gaels return nine players this coming year for legendary head coach Adolph Kochendorfer.
