Continue ReadingMy goal for this month is to try and highlight as many prospects in South Florida as possible. While that has always been my mission, I am really trying to work in overdrive with the summer winding down. Specifically, I am focusing on players who do not fall into the level of internet publicity as some of the names you already know. I tried inaugurating that idea into my first piece of the month and will do so here.
These kids are just going out to local courts with a ball and working on their games. There are no cameras or special functions around to promote them. They are just quietly putting in the work in preparation for the high school season.
Let’s get into the list..
Colin Drummond – Western (Davie)
2023 Colin Drummond has a world of talent playing for the Western Wildcats. The sophomore currently stands at 6-foot-2 with room to grow. Drummond projects as a small forward with positional versatility to guard multiple defenders. On the offensive end, I have seen Drummond stretch the floor and consistently knock down an outside shot. Additionally, Drummond has the size to get into the paint and finish at the rim. For him to be successful at the varsity level, Drummond should work on his ball handling and passing ability. I believe improvements in that part of his game will keep defenders honest and allow him to pull up around the perimeter for more easy shots. At his age, Drummond is already a good communicator on the court and presents a high level IQ of a multiple year varsity player.
Ryan Maxwell Ryan Maxwell 6'0" | SG Royal Palm Beach | 2021 State FL – Royal Palm Beach
Maxwell is a steady 6-foot shooting guard for Royal Palm Beach. The rising senior knocked down 50 percent of his field goals while averaging 11.7 points per game last season. Specifically, Maxwell dropped 28 points on Collegiate on 76 percent shooting from the field. Additionally, Maxwell averaged 3.4 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. An element of his game I would like to see him work on is his 3-point shooting consistency. Maxwell should be in for a big senior year.
Keon Kindred Keon Kindred 6'6" | PF Wellington | 2022 State FL – Wellington Wolverines
2021 center Keon Kindred Keon Kindred 6'6" | PF Wellington | 2022 State FL has a big opportunity to step up with the loss of 2023 Marvel Allen Marvel Allen 6'4" | SG Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian | 2023 State #46 Nation FL . At 6-foot-6, Double K will be one of the bigger players in Palm Beach County. Across 27 games played, Kindred averaged 5.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Look for him to carve out more of a role with 2021 Christopher Walker running the show.
Jordan Guerrero – Florida Christian
Guerrero is part of a talented group of guards for Florida Christian. The 6-foot-3 Patriot averaged 9.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. Guerrero is not shy to shoot the 3-pointer as he collected 168 attempts. Against Spanish River, Guerrero finished with 20 points on six made three’s. Additionally, the rising senior is a good rebounder for his position. Against Somerset Academy, Guerrero grabbed nine boards, five on the offensive end.
Adrian Salcedo – Coral Park
Across 25 games played, Salcedo averaged 4.6 points and 3.1 rebounds. However, the 6-foot-4 forward scored a season-high 18 points on 80 percent shooting against Lighthouse Private Christian Academy. Moreover, the 2021 scored 14 points against Miami High. Clearly, Salcedo has shown the ability to produce. With the loss of Ga’Khari Lacount Ga’Khari Lacount 6'0" | CG Coral Park | 2020 State FL , Salcedo can balance himself out into a more consistent player.
