After our series of articles on the Class of 2021 who should be valued, we now shift our attention to those in the Class of 2022 and those that need to be on the radar of college coaches.
We will continue to go through each conference to try and hit as many players as possible with the hopes of helping these juniors the attention of prospective college coaches.
Trevion Labeaux Trevion Labeaux 6'3" | SF Ames | 2022 State IA – Waterloo East
Part of a youth movement at Waterloo East last season was Class of 2022 prospect Trevion Labeaux Trevion Labeaux 6'3" | SF Ames | 2022 State IA .
Labeaux scored 282 points, shooting almost 57 percent from the floor. His 140 rebounds led the Trojans, while adding a team-high 31 blocks, 14 assists and 12 steals.
Labeaux, who knocked down almost 58 percent of his free throws, is one of 10 players returning who started at least one game last year for Waterloo East.
Gabe Burkle Gabe Burkle 6'7" | PF Prairie | 2022 State IA – Cedar Rapids Prairie
Part of a talented Class of 2022 duo for Cedar Rapids Prairie with Elijah Ward Elijah Ward 6'2" | CG Prairie | 2022 State IA , Gabe Burkle Gabe Burkle 6'7" | PF Prairie | 2022 State IA was a force inside last season.
Burkle scored 230 points with 142 rebounds including 50 on the offensive end. The center also blocked 18 shots and added 24 assists and 13 steals.
Checking in at 6-foot-7, Burkle shot over 58 percent from the field and nearly 67 percent at the free throw line.
Jamari Newson Jamari Newson 6'2" | PG Iowa City | 2022 State IA – Iowa City High
While the graduation of leading scorer and rebounder Keshawn Christian Keshawn Christian 6'2" | SG Iowa City High | 2020 State IA hurts Iowa City High, the continued development of Class of 2022 player Jamari Newson Jamari Newson 6'2" | PG Iowa City | 2022 State IA should soften the blow.
Newson averaged eight points and five rebounds per game last year, adding in 52 assists and 38 steals for the Little Hawks.
He knocked down 11 three-pointers and shot over 42 percent from the field through 22 games.
Trey Campbell Trey Campbell 6'4" | PG Cedar Falls | 2022 State IA – Cedar Falls
Despite being just a sophomore, Class of 2022 prospect Trey Campbell Trey Campbell 6'4" | PG Cedar Falls | 2022 State IA had no trouble handling the point guard duties at Cedar Falls a year ago.
Campbell scored 169 points, adding 115 assists with 96 rebounds and 40 steals. He grabbed 33 offensive boards and even blocked eight shots.
Along with helping lead the Tigers to a third place finish in Class 4A at state, Campbell also shot nearly 50 percent from the field and over 72 percent at the charity stripe.
Brayden Kindhart Brayden Kindhart 6'0" | CG Cedar Rapids Jefferson | 2022 State IA – Cedar Rapids Jefferson
One of the top scoring sophomores in the Mississippi Valley Conference last year, Cedar Rapids Jefferson’s Brayden Kindhart Brayden Kindhart 6'0" | CG Cedar Rapids Jefferson | 2022 State IA should be poised for a big junior campaign.
Kindhart averaged just under 10 points per game, shooting almost 51 percent from the field. He will be looked upon to add to that number with the graduation of leading scorer Ozzie Meiborg Ozzie Meiborg 6'1" | SG Cedar Rapids Jefferson | 2020 State IA .
Along with scoring 218 points, Kindhart added 53 rebounds, 30 assists and 15 steals. He also made nearly 61 percent of his free throws and knocked down 28 three-pointers.
