Lorenson was one of the best guards this weekend, leading his team to the 13U Hard Work Bracket championship. Lorenson showed he had what it take to be a multidimensional player, he showcased a smooth jumper from both the mid range and three point line and finding the open spots against the defense to create open layups for himself. Lorenson has good court vision setting up teammates with easy passes when the defense collapsed on his dribble drive attack. He has an explosive quick first step combined with a tight handle which resulted in him blowing by defenders all weekend. He was also extremely active on the defensive end disrupting ball handlers and finding himself in passing lanes constantly to create fast break layups for himself and his teammates
Jake Schultz | Guard | Minnesota Matrix
Schultz was the best passer this weekend by far. His ability to create and attack off the dribble is impressive and his ability to consistently hit the open teammate in the chest is second to none. Schultz was able to set up multiple teammates in the half court offense by always making the right play. He has exceptional court vision and it led to his team taking second in the 13U Grit Bracket. He has incredible touch as well, knowing how much to apply on each pass. Schultz also knocked down multiple shots from downtown, will be an interesting follow to see how court vision improves with size and age.
Jeremiah Johnson | Guard | Minnesota Matrix
Johnson was an impressive shooter this weekend. His soft touch is what led them to taking second place in the 13U Grit Bracket. He came out of the gate firing in the early morning games and continued to get better throughout the day. His ability to connect from the outside allowed him to easily get defenders in the air with solid head fakes and create opportunities for himself at the rim and set up teammates when the defense was too slow on rotations. Also has a decent handle that would allow him to be a second option as a primary ball handler.
Duke Richardson | Guard | D1MN
Richardson was one of the more complete guards this weekend. He was never out of control and helped run a talented D1 team alongside Lorenson. He has a smooth stroke and connected on multiple jump shots from outside and showcased a good handle creating easy opportunities for himself off the dribble with a smooth pull up and finishing through contact at the rim across multiple games. Not as athletic as other guards this weekend but has the IQ of when to take shots and when to keep the ball moving. Showcased ability to pass the ball as he also set up teammates for easy opportunities at the rim which ultimately led to points. Interesting follow to see if athleticism can improve with age.
Luke Emmerich | Forward | MN Comets
Emmerich, while not being the most skilled player this weekend, was one of the most impactful. Emmerich is a long forward that is extremely active on the defensive end. His long arms and bigger frame allowed him to cause havoc on that end of the floor. He has an absolute ball hawk and was in every single passing lane. He was able to create many opportunities for himself and his teammates with his effort on the defensive end with how many steals he was able to pick up. He converted a ton of layups in the full court setting through traffic and was able to do the same in the half court by getting through defenders with the strength he has. It will be interesting to see if he develops a jump shot and what type of player he’ll be as he grows with size and adds muscle. Could become an above the rim player.
Xavier Daniels | Forward | Minnesota Magic Starling
Daniels is an interesting prospect, very raw athlete and possess a bigger frame and plus strength for the age group. Daniels isn’t a primary ball handler but did flash some potential with the ball while being able to create off the dribble and get himself to the rim for layup opportunities. Daniels is also a tough match up on the defensive end as he keeps ball handlers in front of him and it’s hard to push through him with the strength combined with his size. Could be a potential beast in the lane/on the block if he can develop a better touch around the rim. Daniels is also a certified glass cleaner as he constantly put himself in the right positions and out hustled the opposition for offensive rebounds and kept extra possessions to a minimum with his ability to hunt out the defensive rebounds also.
Desmond Ware | Guard | D1MN- Morrison
Ware was a big reason for leading D1MN- Morrison to their 13U Grit Bracket championship. Very athletic guard that is explosive with the first step and showed incredible ball control with a very tight handle. Ware showcased an outside shot connecting multiple times from both the mid range and from three. He flashed some potential with passing hitting teammates in stride for easy buckets and finding the open man. Ware should be a fun follow if his decision making and finishing ability at the rim improve with age and maturity.
Sean Hansen | Guard | Wisconsin Crusaders
Hansen was one of the more impressive guards this weekend, but could easily become a hybrid type player as he continues to progress into higher age groups. Hansen was constantly pushing the tempo when the ball was in his hands and being the main catapult in a run and gun offense. Flashed a lot of potential as a good passer putting the ball in the chest of his teammates on outlet passes and in the half court setting creating open shot attempts for teammates. Has a large frame and a very muscular build and showcased that strength ripping away rebounds from opposing players and easily moving defenders out of the way when attacking the rim. Should be a stronger player for his class as he continues to grow as he gets older.
Carmello McGowan | Guard | Pride Roc
McGowan flashed some potential to be a good two way player this weekend. He has a decent handle that he used to create separation off the dribble and knocked down some tough pull up jumpers. He showed he has the ability to pass in both the half court and full court setting knowing where the open man is and hitting them in the chest, also successfully making some flashy no look passes. While not being one of the best athletes, he was able to block shots and strip opposing players showcasing timing that you can’t teach on the defensive end. McGowan also played with the 14U Pride Roc team and knocked down a couple threes.
