Let’s take a look at what went on this past week in the Maryland/D.C area.
COMMITMENTS
2021 Mount St. Joe/Mid-Atlantic Select guard D’Angelo Stines D’Angelo Stines 6'2" | CG Mount St. Joseph | 2021 State MD made his pledge to Old Dominion. Stines is a 6-foot-3 combo guard who saw his stock rise after his tremendous play in the second half of the season. He was a prospect that was predicted to take full advantage of the spring and summer travel circuits to possibly boost his stock further, but he felt that the relationship he and the Old Dominion coaching staff built over the last month was enough. The other schools that were vying for Stines include Howard, Loyola (MD), Mount St. Mary’s and Quinnipiac. Stines will head to Virginia where he spent years of his childhood to play for head coach Jeff Jones where he should develop steadily as a player and earn a quality education.
OFFERS
2021 Bishop Walsh guard Jalen Miller Jalen Miller 6'2" | PG Bishop Walsh | 2021 State #151 Nation MD keeps the offer ball rolling by earning one from Rutgers yesterday, as reported first by Adam Ayalew. The 6-foot-3 floor general now holds a total of 16 offers. The Scarlet Knights are the first of the Big East variety to offer Miller and have been very active in recruiting the state of Maryland. It’ll be interesting if they can establish a strong relationship to get an in-road and potentially earn his commitment.
2021 IMG Academy guard Brandon Murray Brandon Murray 6'5" | SG IMG Academy | 2021 #220 Nation FL was offered by Auburn. The former Poly standout made noise at Big Shots Nationals by pouring in over 30 points per contest. The 6-foot-5 guard with elite athleticism and shot-making ability is now proving to be one of the best available guards in the country. He now holds 18 total offers with the majority being high major programs.
2021 St. Frances guard Khryrie Staten is finally starting to get Division I attention as he picked up two offers this past week from Delaware State and Loyola (MD). TIme and time again last season the 6-foot-2 combo guard stepped up in huge ways on both sides of the floor against nationally ranked opponents to help secure wins. Staten is vastly underrated prospect who has a competitive edge that every team needs.I expect a few more offers to come his way before he ultimately makes his decision likely sometime in October.
2022 Sidwell Friends forward George Perkins George Perkins 6'8" | PF Sidwell Friends | 2022 State MD added an offer from Virginia Tech. The Hokies are Perkins’ second ACC program to offer next to Maryland as word continues to spread about the 6-foot-8’s potential. His other offers include George Washington, Howard, LaSalle and VCU.
2022 Glenelg Country wing Noah Batchelor Noah Batchelor 6'6" | SF IMG Academy | 2022 State #184 Nation FL was offered by Georgia after his showing at the Summer Finale event by On The Radar Hoops. The 6-foot-7 wing has intriguing athleticism, ability to shoot the three and potential to be a versatile piece for a program at the next level. With 13 offers in total, the Bulldogs were Batchelor’s second SEC program to get involved.
COMMITMENT WATCH
All signs are pointing to 2021 DeMatha guard Jordan Hawkins Jordan Hawkins 6'5" | SF DeMatha | 2021 State #41 Nation MD making an announcing very soon. He had planned on announcing a list of 11 schools that he would focus on, but then made it public that he would be releasing a date for his commitment “soon.” UConn seems to be in the driver’s seat for the 6-foot-5 shooting guard, but he boasts an impressive list of high major schools that are hoping different.
2021 guard Jalen Warley is set to make his decision this Sunday. The Westtown/Team Durant floor general is regarded as one of the best at his position as he poses tremendous size at 6-foot-5, a great feel for the game and ability to impact the box score in a multitude of ways. Warley’s final schools include Florida State, Louisville, LSU, Maryland, Memphis, Miami, Ohio State, Oregon and Virginia. For some time it seemed Michigan and Virginia held a lead in his recruitment, but head coach Leonard Hamilton has made a late push and put Florida State heavily into the conversation. This year has shown us that nothing is guaranteed so until Warley makes his official announcement any of these schools have a chance, but watch out for the Seminoles.
