But to make sure some of the top Kansas kids don’t go unnoticed, here is a look at some of the Kansas players from the south and west who finished the summer strong (in alphabetical order and with club and high school listed):
Aiden Harper, Perry Ellis 34 17U, Winfield:
Harper is a 5-foot-11 shooter who can drive and kick the ball out. When the ball is not in his hands, he cuts and moves to find openings in the defense. He is a tough defender who gets his hands on a lot of ball. In transition, he runs the court hard and can finish.
Devon Junghans Devon Junghans 5'9" | PG Salina South | 2021 State KS , SSA Black 17U, Salina South:
The 5-foot-9 Junghans is an impressive ball handler who can break down a defender and penetrate to score or find an open teammate. His quick drives lead to fouls on the defense. He is strong for his size and knocks down free throws. He’s a tough defender who moves his feet to cut off driving lanes.
Devan McEwen, SSA Black 17U, Lebo:
McEwen returns as the scoring champion of the Lyon County League and a second-team 1A all-stater. He is an athletic 6-foot-2 guard who had to do a lot of things without the ball in his hands this summer. He showed he could drive from the wing and pull up on jumpers or dish to open teammates. He is a strong and tough team-first player.
Eli Sawyers, Kansas Pray N Play 17U, Southeast of Saline:
A young player to watch, Sawyers played up two age levels. He’ll be just a sophomore this year, but Pray N Play wasn’t afraid to stick him into some rugged 17U matches. He didn’t seem intimidated by the all-state caliber players around him. At 6-foot-5, he has the body to be a presence in the paint. But his skills are versatile and he’s not afraid to have the ball in his hands in the open court or on the perimeter. When he played on the 15U level, he was a standout.
