Prep Hoops highlighted a lot of the top performers at the end of the summer.
But to make sure some of the top Kansas performers don’t go unnoticed, here is a look at some of the Kansas City-area players who finished the summer strong (in alphabetical order and with club and high school listed):
Jacob Heinz, United Basketball 17U, Shawnee Mission North:
Heinz is playing up a year. The junior-to-be is a very athletic 6-foot guard who can penetrate and create. He can maneuver with the drive in traffic, using spin dribbles and crossovers to navigate. He can rebound well for his size, and will take the ball end to end. Most of all, he’s a constant hustler, cleaning up garbage and getting to the right spot on the floor.
Dante Jackson, United Basketball 17U, Shawnee Mission West:
Another young man playing up a year, Jackson can really elevate in the lane. His athleticism make him a tough defender. He can rebound, pick pockets and intercept passes. His athletic play also forces defenders to foul him, sending him to the line frequently.
Jeremiah Manning, United Basketball 17U, Shawnee Mission North:
Senior Manning is a hustling defender who always seems to have his hands on opponents’ dribbles and passes. On offense, he is an aggressive driver and a solid perimeter shooter. He is equally good handling the ball to set up the offense, or getting open to catch and shoot.
Trevor Mcbride Trevor Mcbride 6'2" | CG Basehor Linwood | 2022 State KS , SSA Black 17U, Basehor Linwood:
McBride is playing up a year with the 17-year-old SSA club. He earned 5A honorable mention as a sophomore. He is good at driving the lane with the ball, unselfishly looking for a teammate to kick to. The 6-foot-1 guard is quick and heady. Playing on a guard-heavy club, he does a lot of good things without the ball in his hands.
Preston Reynolds Preston Reynolds 6'4" | CG Shawnee Mission East | 2021 State KS , Team KC Pip 17U, Shawnee Mission East:
The 6-foot-4 Reynolds is a springy wing who can penetrate or shoot from deep. He is long and lanky and a tough defender. He can block shots or disrupt opposing ball handlers. He can handle the ball and pass on the perimeter or on the drive.
