The Jersey Force Scrimmages was filled with good point guard play with prospects who can make a difference at the next level. Here are the top point guards from the first day of Volume 3 of the Jersey Force Scrimmages.
Christian Cevis Christian Cevis 6'0" | PG West Morris | 2021 State NJ , 6’0 NJ Panthers 17U (West Morris) 2021
Cevis is a skilled floor general who showed his ability to lead during the scrimmages. The 6’0 guard hit the game winning shot in the opening game, but that was not his only bright spot on the day. Cevis was able to get by his man off the dribble all game and made several good passes. He knocked down shots from the perimeter and got several deflections on the defensive end. Cevis ran the show for the NJ Panthers 17U team and should continue to do so for the rest of the summer.
Marcus Pierce Marcus Pierce 6'1" | CG Compass Prep | 2022 State NJ , 6’1 Jersey Force Select (St. Joseph Hammonton) 2021
Pierce had a strong showing during the first day of the scrimmages as he consistently made plays. The 6’1 guard showed off his good handle and his ability to make tough layups around the basket. Pierce made several nice passes when he got into the lane, including a beautiful pass with two defenders around him. He did not just attack the paint as he also knocked down a couple of perimeter jumpers. Pierce is a scoring point guard who helps the Jersey Force Select team run smoothly.
Dante Weise Dante Weise 6'1" | PG George School | 2023 State PA , 5’9 Jersey Force 16U (Allentown) 2022
Weise shares the lead guard role with Ryan Curry Ryan Curry 6'0" | PG Montgomery | 2022 State NJ , but he proved at the scrimmages that he is able to run the offense. The 5’9 guard is crafty with the ball in his hands and does not get rattled when he is pressed. Weise can beat his man off the bounce and make plays when he gets into the lane. He is a good rebounder for a point guard and likes to push the ball in transition. Weise is a talented point guard prospect who should continue to have strong performances for the Jersey Force 16U team.
Malachi Johnson Malachi Johnson 6'0" | PG Roselle | 2023 NJ , 5’11 NJ Panthers 16U (Union) 2023
Johnson may have been one of the youngest players on the floor, but he was still able to stand out. The 5’11 guard has a nice release on his jumper and does not need a lot of space to get his shot off. Johnson did not just show off his ability to shoot the ball from distance as he also was able to beat his man off the bounce. He made nice passes when he got into the lane and played solid defense. Johnson is getting more confidence with the NJ Panthers 16U team as the summer progresses, which will only help his development.
Isaiah Griffin Isaiah Griffin 5'11" | PG Patrick School | 2023 KS , 6’0 NJ Beasts 16U (Hudson Catholic) 2022
Griffin normally plays with the NJ Beasts 17U team, but he was still able to make plays on the 16U team. The 6’0 guard was able to make plays off the bounce and played with extreme confidence. Griffin has a good handle and knows how to finish around the basket. He moves his feet well on the defensive end and has a good shooting form. Griffin is a tough point guard prospect whose ability to make plays should help the NJ Beasts teams this summer.
