However, I have been watching quite a few live streams and scrimmages from different programs, and have been impressed with quite a few of them. Here’s a look at part one of my standouts from the 17U VA programs, with six standouts from different events.
Aminu Mohammed | 6’6” WF | Boo Williams 17U
Mohammed looks better and better every time I have seen him, and has solidified himself as a top 15 prospect in the country and a game changer to whoever lands him. He reminds me of former Boo standout and current Spurs rookie Keldon Johnson with his frame and motor, but he’s added something to his game every time I have seen him. He’s a true three level scorer now, he can push the pace in transition and go coast to coast, he rebounds well on both ends and he can guard multiple positions as well.
Victory Naboya | 6’9” C | Boo Williams 17U
Naboy plays with Mohammed at Greenville Lab in Missouri and has rapidly improved to the point where he’s a starter in the paint for a very talented Boo team. The 6’9” big man is a guy who isn’t super flashy but is extremely productive in the paint as a catch-and-finish above the rim finisher and he’s great in pick-and-rolls as a guy who can dive or catch lobs on the roll. He rebounds well on both ends, competes on both ends and brings great energy when he’s on the floor. He’s a guy who would be a steal at the mid major level and may even play his way into a few high major looks.
Allen Strothers Allen Strothers 6'2" | PG Menchville | 2021 State VA | 6’3” G | Boo Williams 17U
Strothers to me is one of the most under recruited guards in the area and with continued improvement he could be an absolute steal in the college ranks. His size and length is extremely impressive at his position, and along with his athleticism it allows him to be able to make plays on the defensive end and on the glass as a good rebounding guard. He’s a guy who thrives with his ability to get downhill and make plays for others or finish around the rim, and he looks like he’s improved and become more confident in his catch-and-shoot ability too.
David Jones | 6’5” WF | Boo Williams 17U
The Teay’s Valley (WV) wing has come on the recruitment scene very strong in the last year or so and is a consensus top 100 wing with offers from every power conference around. He’s a guy who can do a little bit of everything, is a natural athlete with a great frame and he plays hard on both ends too. He can handle the rock and create shots, he can score from multiple levels and he can take over games when he needs to. He’ll be a guy that many will learn his name in college basketball over the next few years.
Jaylen Leftwich | 6’4” CG | Big Shots Tri-Cities 17U
Leftwich is another under the radar guy out of Lynchburg who had a terrific junior season at Liberty Christian Academy and is building on that with some impressive showing at multiple Big Shots events. A big guard with a solid all-around skill set, Leftwich is a dual threat with the ball in his hands as he can create for both himself and others and is a strong and athletic finisher through contact when he gets downhill.
Grayson Honaker Grayson Honaker 6'0" | CG Hargrave | 2021 State VA | 6’3” WG | Big Shots Tri-Cities 17U
Honaker announced he’ll transfer from Honaker High School to Hargrave for his senior season and that should give him a boost in his recruitment with extra exposure. Honaker was one of the best scorers in the state last year averaging close to 30 points per game, and in multiple Big Shots events so far this year he has shown that he can get it done against top competition too. He’s a highly skilled two guard with deep range and a quick release, but he’s underrated in his ability to to create off the bounce as well.
