PrepHoops Illinois was given the film of the event and had the opportunity to get a recent look at many of the top prospects in the state. Here we dive into the Illinois Wolves Scrimmages: 16U Evaluations!
Jalen Quinn Jalen Quinn 6'3" | PG Tuscola | 2022 State #136 Nation IL (Tuscola – 2022)
Quinn is one of the state’s top point guards in 2022. The central Illinois 6’3” guard was dynamic in a setting with some of the top prospects from Illinois on the floor. He won off the dribble consistently showing elite burst being able to finish at the cup with either hand. He is ambidextrous on layups and short shots. The natural lefty is a plus three point shooter especially when he gets his feet set drilling three of them in the scrimmage showing a sound stroke. High level passer that makes quality decisions with the ball and does a nice job at manipulating ball screens to get what he wants.
Jaden Schutt Jaden Schutt 6'5" | SG Yorkville Christian | 2022 State #42 Nation IL (Yorkville Christian – 2022)
Schutt has a ton of high-major offers already and the 6’5” shooting guard showed exactly why in this setting. He did knock down some of his patented jumpers including several crisp pull ups. What stood out the most in this game was his athleticism and ability to score off the bounce. He got loose in transition several times for finishes above the rim including throwing down a lob. Also took it to the hoop with authority including a monster dunk late in the scrimmage. When defenders close hard on the shot he is more than comfortable with blowing by them for scores. Good passer for a wing that makes the extra dish when it is needed.
Cooper Noard Cooper Noard 6'2" | PG Glenbrook South | 2022 State IL (Glenbrook South – 2022)
Noard is a sleeper D1 caliber point guard in the 2022 class. High IQ guard that has a sweet looking jumper as he drilled one off the catch and another pulling up from three. Also took it strong on a left handed drive. Threw a nice lob pass. Played off the ball most of the game.
Caden Pierce Caden Pierce 6'5" | SG Glenbard West | 2022 State IL (Glenbard West – 2022)
Big outing for the Glenbard West 6’5” shooting guard. Plus size, strength, and skill combination out of this wing. High level shot maker that drilled multiple threes in this game with excellent form. Displayed creativity off the bounce on nifty layups and runners. He had a nice transition pass as well.
Braden Huff Braden Huff 6'11" | PF Glenbard West | 2022 State #58 Nation IL (Glenbard West – 2022)
Huff only played limited minutes in the first half, but the skilled four man looked good while he was in there. The 6’9” four man went coast to coast for a layup and hit the offensive glass for an and-1. Tremendous upside!
AaReyon Munir-Jones AaReyon Munir-Jones 6'2" | SG Hillcrest | 2022 State IL (Tinley Park – 2022)
Really liked Munir-Jones during the high school season. He continues to progress. The 6’3” shooting guard is a long armed and smooth two guard. Solid defender on the perimeter with active hands. Created several turnovers which he took the other way for points. Offensively he mixed in a pull up jumper, euro step, put backs, and got to the foul line.
Darius Duff Darius Duff 6'3" | SG Lake Forest Academy | 2022 State IL (Lake Forest Academy – 2022)
Duff is an athletic 6’3” combo guard with a wiry frame. Burst with the ball on the first step. Got to the rim throughout the scrimmage including finishing through contact and scoop shots. Hit a deep three as well. Brings athleticism to the table on both ends!
Dylan Arnett Dylan Arnett 6'9" | PF DePaul Prep | 2022 State IL (DePaul Prep – 2022)
Strong outing from the DePaul Prep 6’9” five man. Thick bodied post, but has solid mobility to go with it. He was crafty around the hoop finishing in traffic. Displayed good footwork when facing up handling it and drilled a pair of threes. Versatile post that rebounds in his area and can play inside/out.
Matthew Volkening Matthew Volkening 6'6" | SF Marengo | 2022 State IL (Marengo – 2022)
Volkening is a 6’5” small forward that can shoot the ball. The lengthy wing drilled a corner three and high pointed a couple rebounds in this game.
Peyton LaCombe (Luddington, MI – 2022)
LaCombe stands at 6’8” and had a super productive outing. The skilled post is thin, but has a frame to add strength. He utilized hook shots in the paint, rolled to the hoop in the pick/roll, cleaned up on the offensive boards, and had a strong baseline take off a ball fake.
Sonny Williams Sonny Williams 6'1" | PG International Sports Academy | 2023 OH (Niles Notre Dame – 2023)
Williams played up in this game and more than held his own. The Niles Notre Dame lead guard showcased his passing ability getting others involved in the drive and kick. Displayed a good feel for the game and wasn’t fazed playing with older guys. Drilled a turnaround jumper, three, and got in the paint for a floater.
