PrepHoops Illinois was given the film of the event and had the opportunity to get a recent look at many of the top prospects in the state. Here we dive into the Illinois Wolves Scrimmages: 15U Evaluations!
Cameron Christie Cameron Christie 6'4" | SG Rolling Meadows | 2023 State #76 Nation IL (Rolling Meadows – 2023)
Christie is a top 10 prospect in the 2023 class with multiple high-major offers already before his sophomore campaign. The wiry two guard went to work with his scoring game. High level shot maker from all over the floor. Smooth pull up that he connected with rising on a dime. Smooth finisher in transition with acrobatic layups.
Sonny Williams Sonny Williams 6'1" | PG International Sports Academy | 2023 OH (Niles Notre Dame – 2023)
Williams continues to see his stock rise each time we see him play. The Niles Notre Dame point guard drilled feathery jumpers from mid-range and three. Dished the rock to his teammates putting them in positions to succeed. Defensively he contests shots on the perimeter and has active hands getting steals.
Brayden Long Brayden Long 6'4" | SF Yorkville Christian | 2023 State IL (Yorkville Christian – 2023)
Long was very productive in this game. The 6’3” strong bodied shooting guard had his jumper on point all game long. Free and easy release. Long plays with toughness and a motor. Mixed in runners and a couple drives. Rebounds pretty well for a guard.
Khalil Ross Khalil Ross 6'6" | SF Brother Rice | 2023 State IL (Lincoln Way East – 2023)
Ross is a prospect we have been high on for a while. We hadn’t seen him do it consistently against a high level of competition. That was checked off in this outing. Very projectable small forward with length. The lefty wing is cat quick getting on the offensive glass for second chance opportunities. Excels at running the floor for buckets in transition. Slick passer for a wing that threw a great pass in the open floor. Streaky shooter, but did drill one from the corner. Defensively he has a chance to be special with his anticipation getting steals and staying in front of his man.
Tyler Van Gorp (New Trier – 2023)
This was our first look at a prospect we had heard quite a bit about coming into the summer, but had yet to see in an evaluation setting. The 6’8” center is rail thin and will need to add on significant strength moving forward. He did a solid job of high pointing rebounds using his super long arms. Got on the glass for a put back. Flashed skill. Upside long term project with D1 potential.
Troy Cicero (Joliet Central – 2023)
Another new name who came across our radar was this 6’0” point guard. Cicero is a smooth lead guard that manipulates ball screen action and can get to the rim with athleticism. Blew by his man with a burst off the bounce. Did hit one three as well. Showed a good feel for the game.
Xavier Sulaiman Xavier Sulaiman 6'3" | SG Oak Lawn | 2023 State IL (Marist – 2023)
Sulaiman is a prospect that has shined in each setting we have seen him in recently. The 6’3” combo guard is comfortable playing both on and off the ball. The biggest asset of his game is his handles being slippery through traffic getting to the cup whenever he wanted. Also has proven to be a sound jump shooter knocking down a pair of threes along with a sweet pull up coming off a ball screen.
Chris Martin (Mundelein – 2023)
Martin was impressive in our initial evaluation of him. The 6’6” four man has a strong frame combined with mobility on the interior. Finished with power through his defenders and also had the ability to go around them with quick post moves. Reminded us a little of a young Chris Hodges Chris Hodges 6'7" | C Schaumburg | 2021 State #84 Nation IL at the same stage.
Wyatt Thompson (Dwight – 2023)
Thompson is a thick bodied small forward with excellent size at 6’6”. Drilled a three and got on the offensive glass for a put back. Not a ton of production other than that, but one to definitely track!
