I was fortunate enough to get my hands on some stats from the first two weeks of action thanks to Marcellus Bowie, CEO of Legit Sport Stats. For this article, we’ll take a look at some players boasting impressive stat lines thus far.
Jao Ituka Jao Ituka 6'2" | SG Gaithersburg | 2021 MD | 6’1 | Team STAT
Ituka has been the talk of this league and for good reason. The 6-foot-1 lead guard has been the catalyst for Team STAT and is posting an incredible stat line through their two games. Ituka is averaging 24.5 points, nine rebounds, six assists and 2.5 steals per contest. He’s been outstanding getting downhill or out in transition and attacking the rim for finishes or drawing fouls. In either occassion, Ituka is scoring with efficiency. He boasts a 60 percent success rate from the field and has cashed in on 87.5 percent of his free throws.
Cameron Whitmore Cameron Whitmore 6'7" | PF Archbishop Spalding | 2022 State #30 Nation MD | 6’7 | Team Melo ’22
Whitmore is another name that has been trending. In the two games Team Melo has played (and won), Whitmore is averaging 15.5 points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists per game. Where he’s caught most of his attention is in his high-flying, explosive finishes that attest to his elite athleticism. Whitmore has shown focus defensively in the passing lanes off the ball and has caused many issues for their opponents with his anticipation that leads to turnovers and easy dunks.
Favour Aire Favour Aire 6'10" | C Bishop McNamara | 2022 State #86 Nation MD | 6’10 | New World ’22
Aire has owned the paint thus far for New World and shown a tremendous motor in the process. The 6-foot-10 forward is averaging 13 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.3 blocks in just 20 minutes per game. Aire has been running the floor with intent and is a usual suspect to dive on the floor whenever the ball comes loose. The way he is hunting for rebounds, locating guard with outlet passes and sprinting the floor are characteristics that all coaches love in their bigs.
Jalen Warley Jalen Warley 6'4" | CG Westtown School | 2021 State #25 Nation PA | 6’5 | Team Durant ’21
Durant has struggled with inconsistency in their four games due to a number of lineup changes with some players not being able to attend, but Florida State commit Jalen Warley Jalen Warley 6'4" | CG Westtown School | 2021 State #25 Nation PA has been a constant. Warley is recording 15.8 points, 4.5 rebounds three assists and 1.8 steals per game. He’s shooting admirably from the field and three with averages of 55.6 percent and 45.5 percent respectively. If there was one area for improvement it would be his free-throw shooting, which Warley is converting just 57.1 percent of his 14 total attempts. Nevertheless, his ability to control the game and impact in a multitude of ways makes it easy to see why the Seminoles made such a strong push for his services.
Mac MacDonald Mac MacDonald 6'3" | SG Collegiate | 2021 State VA | 6’2 | Team Richmond ’21
McDonald struggled to find his mark out of the gate, but his recent game posting 27 points and going 4-of-8 from deep in a win over Warriors Elite helped his cause. The 6-foot-2 shooter is averaging 15.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and two assists per game. He’s making 38 percent of his shots from the field and is making 94.4 percent of his free-throws (17-of-18).
Stevie Mitchell Stevie Mitchell 6'1" | PG Wilson West Lawn | 2021 State #165 Nation PA | 6’2 | Philly Pride ’21
Mitchell has been a fun watch as a facilitator and as a scorer when his team needs it. The Marquette commit is averaging 16.5 points, 4.3 rebounds 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Although his assists averages are low, Mitchell is making all of the right reads and often times would get rewarded with a hockey assists if the stat existed in basketball. As a scorer, he’s been fluid operating off the dribble. He has yet to make teams pay from three, but he isn’t taking many as he attempts 2.25 per game.
Brayon Freeman | 6’2 | New World ’21
Whenever Freeman steps on the floor you can pencil him in for double-digit scoring outings. He’s built that reputation as an explosive scorer and is continuing to prove why by averaging 18 points per game on 40.8 percent shooting from the field. He’s knocking down 39.1 percent of his triples (24 shots) and 62.5 percent of his free-throws (8 shots). The George Washington commit had a standout performance hitting a number of big shots in their latest win over Team Durant.
