The start of the basketball season is slowly approaching with teams looking to improve from the year before. The rising freshmen class are excited for their first taste of varsity basketball. Hoop Heaven Hawks Elite has a talented group of 2024 prospects who should have strong debut seasons in high school.
Colin Woodring is a skilled guard prospect with the potential to help Bridgewater-Raritan. The 5’10 guard attacks the basket hard and uses his strong frame to finish through contact. Woodring plays with energy on both ends of the floor and gets his hands in the passing lanes. His ability to play good defense will benefit him greatly if he wants to get on the court during his freshman season.
Owen Griffin may need a little bit of seasoning first, but he has the potential to have a good high school career by the time he graduates. The 6’2 forward works hard on the offensive glass and knows how to draw contact down low. Griffin is already a good shot-blocker and knows how to wall up down low. He needs to improve his low post game, but Griffin should definitely contribute to the St. Joe’s Metuchen basketball program during his first high school season.
His future teammate Dante Regan is a talented guard prospect who should develop nicely alongside Griffin. The 5’9 guard has a good handle and knows how to push the pace with the ball in his hands. Regan has a good release on his jumper and can make plays when he gets in the lane. The Falcons have a trio of good guards in Amari Campbell Amari Campbell 6'3" | PG St. Joe's Metuchen | 2022 State NJ , Elijah Barlow Elijah Barlow 6'1" | CG St. Joe's Metuchen | 2021 State NJ and Kody Robinson Kody Robinson 6'3" | SG St. Joe's Metuchen | 2021 State NJ ,who could be the perfect mentors to a rising freshman point guard like Regan.
Dean Smith Dean Smith 6'6" | PF Delbarton | 2020 State NJ is an intriguing guard prospect as he is capable of playing both guard spots. The 5’11 guard is good off the bounce and knows how to score around the basket. Smith can also shoot the ball from the perimeter and knows how to move off the ball. He gets his hands on the ball on defense, which will help him have a strong debut season at Watchung Hills.
John Kelly joins Smith at Watchung Hills, where he looks to show off his all-around skill-set. The 6’0 rising freshman has a good handle and is comfortable bringing the ball up in transition. Kelly can beat his defender off the dribble and is also a solid passer. His defense needs improvement, but Kelly’s ability to affect the game in many ways on offense gives him a chance to help Watchung Hills in 2020-21.
Calvin Wang may be an undersized off-guard, but he makes up for it with his shooting and energy. The 5’10 guard has a quick release on his shot and does not require a lot of space to get it off. Wang moves well off the ball and works hard on the defensive end. Gill St. Bernard’s has a couple of talented guards in Denver Anglin Denver Anglin 6'0" | PG Gill St. Bernard's | 2022 State #120 Nation NJ and Samir Thomas, but Wang’s ability to shoot the ball from distance should help him in his first high school season.
The Hoop Heaven Hawks Elite 2024 class has a lot of talented players who are ready to have strong 2020-21 seasons.
