Here are some of the top 17U guards from the summer:
Carson Lamp Carson Lamp 6'0" | SG Jamestown | 2021 State ND , ECI Prospects
Lamp is the definition of rock-solid. He’s not going to wow you in the layup line, but he’s good in so many areas and impacts the game in a big way on both ends of the floor. He’s as strong as anybody, and uses his frame to bully defenders on his way to the paint. He’s a heady playmaker who is always under control and plays with a great understanding of how to balance looking for his shot and getting guys involved. And he’s a bulldog on the defensive end of the floor – on an ECI team that oftentimes played at least two point guards together, he defended bigger wings more often than not.
Tristin Davis Tristin Davis 6'2" | PG Turtle Mountain | 2021 State ND , ND Phenom
Davis is a big, athletic guard who can really make plays off the dribble. He’s got great length, which is a big asset for him on the defensive end of the floor where he does a good job fighting through screens and cutting off ballhandlers while also contesting shots. He’s a terrific rebounder for a guard too. Davis is dynamic from the mid-range and does a great job creating space to elevate for jumpers off the bounce, and his ability to thread passes in traffic creates easy scoring opportunities for his teammates.
Deonte Martinez Deonte Martinez 5'10" | PG Minot | 2021 State ND , ECI Prospects
Martinez spent the grassroots season playing with ECI and he had no issues fitting right in and making an impact. He does a great job pushing the pace, getting into the paint, making plays for his teammates or scoring himself. He’s a stocky, tough defender who puts pressure on opposing ballhandlers up and down the floor.
Mason Martinson, Pentagon Schoolers
Martinson looked really good playing with Pentagon Schoolers, showcasing an explosiveness and juice off the dribble to go along with a pretty long-range jumper. His assertiveness on the offensive end of the floor was a big plus and his ability to create for himself and his teammates was impressive. He’s not the biggest guy, but he’s competitive on the defensive end. He gets up underneath opposing ballhandlers and puts pressure on the ball.
Jase Crockett Jase Crockett 5'10" | PG Northern Cass | 2021 State ND , ECI Selects
Crockett is an explosive scorer in every sense. He’s not the tallest guy, but he’s built like a truck and uses his strength to get to his spots where he can do damage. He’s got great range from beyond the 3-point line, and he’s an adept playmaker. And he’s a grinder on the defensive end of the floor. He puts pressure on the ball, he’s aggressive in the passing lanes and he plays with an energy that is infectious.
Jayce Lowman Jayce Lowman 6'3" | SG Mandan | 2021 State ND , ND Attack Green
Lowman is a lot like Lamp in that he’s just so solid all around. He’s longer than you’d think at 6-foot-3 and while he’s probably most known for his long-range shooting, his overall floor game is excellent. He’s a good passer, under control going off the bounce and his defense is outstanding.
