The GMC is filled with talented guards who are ready to make an impact at the next level. Here are the top guard duos in the GMC.
St. Thomas Aquinas
The reigning GMC Tournament champions may have to replace third team All-State performer in Quadry Adams Quadry Adams 6'3" | PG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2020 State #361 Nation NJ ,but they return a talented duo in Jaquan Harris Jaquan Harris 6'4" | PG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2022 State #164 Nation NJ and Kyree Henry Kyree Henry 6'0" | CG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2021 State NJ . The former is a talented point guard who can score from all three levels. Henry is a knockdown shooter from behind the arc who knows how to move off the ball. The two play extremely well off each other and know how to jump passing lanes. The Trojans are filled with Tristan Jeffries Tristan Jeffries 6'5" | SF St. Thomas Aquinas | 2021 State NJ and Josh Rivera on the perimeter, but Harris and Henry are the key to the team’s success in 2020-21.
St. Joe’s Metuchen
The Falcons have historically been one of the top teams in the GMC and they will be again this season. Rising junior Amari Campbell Amari Campbell 6'3" | PG St. Joe's Metuchen | 2022 State NJ is a skilled lead guard who knows how to score around the basket. Union Catholic transfer Elijah Barlow Elijah Barlow 6'1" | CG St. Joe's Metuchen | 2021 State NJ is a tough on-ball defender who can also knock down perimeter jumpers. His ability to defend the point should allow Campbell to be fresher on the offensive end. Kody Robinson Kody Robinson 6'3" | SG St. Joe's Metuchen | 2021 State NJ is another talented guard option on St. Joe’s Metuchen as the Falcons look to improve from their 19-9 record from 2019-20.
Wardlaw-Hartridge
The Rams experienced a 13-win turnaround last season due to the presence of Savion Pressley and Mekhai Huey. The former is a lightning quick guard who led the state in steals. Huey is also a thief in the backcourt and is hard to keep out of the lane. They are both good passers and play extremely well off each other. Wardlaw-Hartridge’s dynamic backcourt should help the Rams have a strong 2020-21 season.
South Brunswick
The Vikings took home the Central Jersey Group 4 title, but they have to replace Justin Carbone Justin Carbone 6'4" | SG South Brunswick | 2020 State NJ and Devin Strickland Devin Strickland SG South Brunswick | 2020 State NJ . Rising junior Yathin Vemula Yathin Vemula 6'0" | PG South Brunswick | 2022 State NJ hit the game-winning layup and plays with poise on the ball. The 6’0 guard plays solid on-ball defense and knows how to run the offense. Tyrell Murchison Tyrell Murchison 5'10" | PG South Brunswick | 2021 State NJ started alongside Vemula and provides the Vikings with toughness and ball-handling. Jabri Fitzpatrick Jabri Fitzpatrick 6'0" | CG Patrick School National | 2022 State NJ will also provide help in the backcourt, but Vemula and Murchison’s ability to play with one another will be the X-Factor for South Brunswick in 2020-21.
Timothy Christian
The Tigers have to replace Abdul Momoh Abdul Momoh 6'7" | PF Patrick School National | 2021 State NJ ’s production down low, but they are set in the backcourt. Rising senior Ronnie Burwan Jr. Ronnie Burwan Jr. 6'4" | CG Timothy Christian | 2021 State NJ is a talented combo guard who can attack off the bounce and knock down jumpers. The 6’4 guard is also a good defender and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands. Gian Wagner Gian Wagner 6'0" | SG Timothy Christian | 2022 State NJ hit 70 triples last season and his shooting provides Burwan Jr. with more space to drive. Timothy Christian’s guard duo is good enough to lead the Tigers to a strong 2020-21 season.
