The Indy Heat Gym Rats wrapped up their Summer AAU season with a Summer Finale Tournament in Fort Wayne. Some of Michigan’s best players put on a show and some previously unknown prospects started to make a name for themselves.
Andrew Brown (Moneyball East 17u)
Brown started off the weekend with a lights out performance early Saturday morning. It felt like the kid didn’t miss, especially from behind the arc. Brown had 23 points and a game-winning three over a tough Gym Rats team. He kept up his performance throughout the weekend and was arguably the best shooter in the gym.
Marcus Wourman (Grand Rapids Storm 17u)
Wourman has been an elite true point guard at the varsity level for three years now, and every time he performs he shows why. He is a very capable shooter as well as having the ability to beat his man off the dribble and attack the basket. He knows how to finish around the rim as well as knowing when to pass it to the open man. He rarely turns the ball over and it looks as if he has the ball on a string at times. College coaches need to start to take notice.
Tyler Johnson Tyler Johnson 6'3" | CG Cedar Shoals | 2020 GA (Oakland Elite 17u)
Johnson had a standout performance against a good All Ohio Varsity team on Saturday. He lit them up from deep and was crucial in crunchtime which is a trait you simply cannot teach. He’s a 6’5 wing that can stretch the floor and use his size to get to the basket. Johnson has put coaches and scouts on notice.
Kobe Vanderwoude (MBA National 17u)
With a name like his you know Kobe Vanderwoude can score the ball. He is a very solid shooter from deep and can knock down midrange shots. He’s great at pushing the tempo and often would get a rebound and take off down the court. While he can score in a variety of ways, his most dangerous shot was floaters and runners in the lane. He has a smooth touch and just seems to loft it up and in over much bigger defenders.
Blake Lund Blake Lund 6'1" | CG Linden | 2021 State MI (Oakland Elite 17u)
If you’ve been paying attention to the Michigan AAU scene this summer, you most likely have heard Blake Lund Blake Lund 6'1" | CG Linden | 2021 State MI ’s name. He seems to make noise at nearly ever camp and tournament he participates in and this weekend was no different. Lund is a 6’1 combo guard who’s a knockdown shooter and shows up in the big moments. An example of this was when he hit a game-winning shot in overtime on Saturday against a very good All Ohio Varsity team.
