College Commitment: Drew Carter (2021 Tigard HS)
While football will be the main reason why he’s going to Colorado, the hoops career of Drew Carter Drew Carter 6'3" | SG Tigard | 2021 OR won’t be over after he graduates from Tigard High School. The athletic 6-foot-3, 175-pound quarterback will be also suiting up for the Buffaloes on the hardwoods and after making his decision public on social media, he couldn’t have been more enthusiastic about his choice.
“So excited about Colorado, they have really shown me a lot of love all through this crazy process,” Carter said. “All of the coaches have been involved with the recruiting process which has been great and has made me really feel comfortable with CU.”
According to Carter, it was a trip to Boulder that made a huge impact – as did the opportunity to play hoops for head coach Tad Boyle in addition to football in the Pac-12. “I had a chance to visit and I was blown away by Colorado,” Carter said. “CU football coaches reached out and put me in contact with coach Boyle. We had some great conversations and he said he would love to have me as well. So what better than having an opportunity to still do both!”
As a multi-sport athlete, Carter’s scholarship will count first for football and will be technically considered a walk-on in basketball. It will yet to be determined exactly how things will work out but Carter notes that the coaching staffs in both sports are in full communication.
“I will play football and then join basketball when football season is over,” Carter said. “Both Coach Dorrell and Coach Boyle have said they will figure out all of the details.”
From the very beginning Carter indicated he wanted to be recruited in both football and basketball and he had his wishes granted by Colorado. “I feel so blessed,” Carter said. “I have worked and continue to work so hard for this and I can’t wait to join the Buffs!”
Last season at Tigard, Carter ranked second in 6A in scoring at 24.4 ppg and earned Three Rivers League Player of the Year and First Team 6A All-State honors. He currently ranks as the #5 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2021 rankings.
