Here’s a quick look at where the top five ranked players in the Class of 2022 currently stand with their early recruitment.
Lamar Washington Lamar Washington 6'4" | CG AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State #128 Nation AZ (2022 Jefferson) – Ranked #1
Washington is clearly the mostly highly recruited player in the state from the junior class. After a breakout sophomore year at Jefferson where he led the team in scoring (14.9 ppg) and assists (4.0 apg), the 6-foot-4 point guard picked up a slew of offers and currently holds at least eight from the likes of Washington State, Portland State, Pacific, Pepperdine, Eastern Washington, Montana, Montana State, and Bryant. Also holding a number of football offers including some from the Pac-12, Washington remains open but it appears that hoops will be his preferred route for college.
Luke Johnson Luke Johnson 6'8" | PF Central Catholic | 2022 WV (2022 Central Catholic) – Ranked #2
Johnson also had a breakout sophomore campaign and put up solid numbers of 11.3 points and 6.0 rebounds for the Rams in 2019-20. The 6-foot-8 forward emerged as the team’s top threat in the post and his ability to run the floor and finish in transition helped Central Catholic capture a state tournament berth. Johnson picked up his first scholarship offer from Bryant and has been in contact with Eastern Washington, Idaho, Idaho State, and Pepperdine. Johnson is also a quarterback prospect and has indicated he remains undecided on which sport he will take on at the college level.
Samaje Morgan Samaje Morgan 5'9" | PG Churchill | 2022 State OR (2022 Churchill) – Ranked #3
Morgan is the top-ranked point guard in the class and is coming off a year where he moved into the starting lineup and helped direct Churchill’s high-octane offense to the tune of 9.7 points and 4.4 assists. The jet-quick 5-foot-8 floor leader earned his first offer from Bryant after the season and is also hearing from schools such as Portland, Idaho State, Santa Clara, Montana, Montana State, and Chaminade.
Dallon Morgan Dallon Morgan 6'9" | PF Sprague | 2022 State OR (2022 Sprague) – Ranked #4
Morgan made big strides as a sophomore, becoming a full-time starter and averaging 12.2 points and 6.4 rebounds on a guard-dominated Sprague squad. The 6-foot-10 big man’s ability to step outside and shoot from the perimeter fits into today’s play style for many college programs and Montana State was the first to step in and offer him a scholarship this winter. Other programs from both Coasts continue to monitor his progress.
Devon Malcolm Devon Malcolm 6'4" | SF South Medford | 2022 State OR (2022 Butte Falls) – Ranked #5
Malcolm burst onto the scene as a sophomore and highlights of some of his fast break dunking exploits have become legend on social media. The 6-foot-4 swingman is likely the best athlete in the entire state for any class and has certainly attracted attention from college programs. He’s still waiting for his first offer but schools such as Oregon State, Idaho State, UC Irvine, and UC San Diego have been calling.
