While a couple members of the top players in the PrepHoops Oregon rankings have made choices – both with football in the forefront – the majority have yet to make a selection.
Yesterday we took a look at the top five ranked players in the state – here’s a quick look at where the next five currently stand.
Darius Gakwasi Darius Gakwasi 6'5" | SG Central Catholic | 2021 State OR (2021 Central Catholic) – Ranked #6
Gakwasi seems to have narrowed things down in his college recruitment to two schools – and two high-academic ones in that in Stanford and Princeton. In our last conversation with him, he didn’t give any timeline on when he might decide so it appears that he may be taking his time with this one. While a fall decision would not be shocking, the 6-foot-5 swingman didn’t play AAU this summer so don’t be surprised if this one stretches out into the spring.
Trace Salton Trace Salton 6'5" | SF Lake Oswego | 2021 State OR (2021 Lake Oswego) – Ranked #7
Another top player who didn’t end up playing this summer was Salton, who picked up his first Division I offer in the spring from UC Riverside and the hope was that would springboard his recruitment. The 6-foot-5 forward also holds an offer from D-II power St. Martin’s. Lake Oswego is on tap to have a really big year so things may play out into the spring for Salton.
Nathan Meithof Nathan Meithof 6'5" | SG McNary | 2021 State OR (2021 McNary) – Ranked #8
Meithof has generated interest from a number of programs but from our last conversation with the talented 6-foot-4 wing, the fact he missed out on taking the SAT may be currently limiting him in terms of how some of the more high-academic schools such as Princeton approach recruiting him. The high-scoring senior is primed to have a big year so look for some offers to emerge in the spring.
Dane Erikstrup Dane Erikstrup 6'10" | C Beaverton | 2021 State OR (2021 Beaverton) – Ranked #9
The skilled and now -foot-10 post picked up his first scholarship offer in the early summer from Army and the hope was that more would develop from AAU ball and his participation on the Danish National Team. While he did get into a couple of tournaments and performed well, the latter event was unfortunately canceled due to COVID concerns. Expect a spring decision from the talented big man who should pick up more options.
Damontae Burns Damontae Burns 6'1" | CG Parkrose | 2021 State OR (2021 Parkrose) – Ranked #10
Originally scheduled to play in a couple of AAU events, Burns ended up sitting out. The athletic 6-foot-1 combo guard took more of a leading role this past season with Parkrose and should once again be the main man as a senior. Schools at all levels continue to monitor his progress and he should be set for another solid season.
