After our series of articles on the Class of 2021 who should be valued, we now shift our attention to those in the Class of 2022 and those that need to be on the radar of college coaches.
We will continue to go through each conference to try and hit as many players as possible with the hopes of helping these juniors the attention of prospective college coaches.
Trey Lewis Trey Lewis 5'10" | PG Johnston | 2022 State IA – Johnston
Johnston showed a lot of promise towards the end of the season, going on a nice run and reaching the Class 4A substate championship round before falling to Ankeny Centennial.
The Dragons will be a team to watch in 2020-21 with several returning starters and key players back including Class of 2022 prospect Trey Lewis Trey Lewis 5'10" | PG Johnston | 2022 State IA .
Making 17 starts and playing gin 22 games, Lewis scored 239 points for Johnston. He led the team in three-point shooting, knocking down 53 triples. His percentages were strong across the board, making 47.5 percent of his field goals, 47 percent of his three-pointers and nearly 71 percent of his free throw attempts.
Lewis also had 59 rebounds, 41 assists and 21 steals.
Corey Phillips Corey Phillips 6'5" | PF Ames | 2022 State IA – Ames
Minus a key player last year, Ames saw others step up and into new roles.
That included Class of 2022 center prospect Corey Phillips Corey Phillips 6'5" | PF Ames | 2022 State IA , who scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds a night.
Phillips a 41 percent shooter from the floor, finished the year with 221 points, a team-high 144 rebounds, 36 assists, 30 steals and 18 blocks. He is one of six regulars back for the Little Cyclones along with Tamin Lipsey Tamin Lipsey 6'2" | PG Ames | 2022 State #163 Nation IA , who missed the season with an injury.
Dillon Kuehl Dillon Kuehl 6'1" | SG Urbandale | 2022 IA – Urbandale
Urbandale had some troubles competing in the CIML Central Conference last year, but the J-Hawks are hoping with four returning starters that this season provides better results.
Dillon Kuehl Dillon Kuehl 6'1" | SG Urbandale | 2022 IA , a Class of 2022 prospect, is one of those back after starting 10 games and playing in 22.
Kuehl scored 169 points, shooting almost 50 percent from the field with 69 rebounds, 31 assists and 14 steals. He knocked down 18 three-pointers, which ranked third on the team.
Ryan Crandall Ryan Crandall 6'1" | SF Ankeny | 2022 State IA – Ankeny
Last year, Ryan Crandall Ryan Crandall 6'1" | SF Ankeny | 2022 State IA contributed six points and almost five rebounds a night for Ankeny, helping the Hawks become Class 4A state champions.
While several key members of that team have graduated, Crandall will be leaned on for his experience and skills this season.
Along with scoring 156 points and grabbing 118 rebounds, Crandall also had 27 assists and 14 steals on 55 percent shooting from the floor. He added 10 made three-pointers and knocked in 72 percent of his free throw attempts.
Steven Kramer Steven Kramer 6'5" | SG Johnston | 2022 State IA – Johnston
While he didn’t start as many games as classmate Trey Lewis Trey Lewis 5'10" | PG Johnston | 2022 State IA , Steven Kramer Steven Kramer 6'5" | SG Johnston | 2022 State IA was still in the rotation on a constant basis.
Kramer started nine games and played in all 23 for Johnston, scoring 140 points on 51 percent shooting from the field. He also had 86 rebounds, 30 assists, 14 steals and made 13 triples.
