Bryce Hopkins Talks Decommitment & New Schools Involved
There was big news in the recruiting world this weekend as the #2 prospect from Illinois the 2021 class Fenwick forward Bryce Hopkins Bryce Hopkins 6'7" | PF Fenwick | 2021 State #32 Nation IL announced he has decommitted from Louisville on Sunday. There had been rumors over the last few weeks, but Sunday he made it official telling PHI the following.
“After talking with my family and coaches we thought it would be best for me to decommit.”
Expect Hopkins recruitment to get very intense with some of the biggest hitters in the Midwest and nationally. More so than any high profile prospect in the last few years he was the prospect that a large number of high-majors made a significant priority before his commitment to Louisville. We asked Hopkins what schools he has talked to in the last 24 hours since reopening his recruitment.
“South Carolina, Duke, Michigan, Kentucky, Texas, Georgia, Providence, Notre Dame, DePaul, Northwestern, Marquette, Seton Hall, Oregon, Mizzou, Nebraska, and Illinois.”
The only new offers he has picked up to date are Oregon and Notre Dame on Monday night. Hopkins has visited quite a few schools already so how will he be going about the recruiting process from here on out?
“Some of the schools want me to get on Zoom calls with them! Then I’ll probably cut my list.”
He walked us through what he will be looking for in a program.
“I will make sure I have a great relationship with the coaching staff. Look for a good style of play. And for them to help me reach my overall goal which is to make it to the next level.”
So what makes the Fenwick standout such a coveted prospect? Hopkins is one of the most dominating players in the state of Illinois and possibly the favorite for Mr. Basketball heading into next season. He is a big bodied combo forward that over powers most opponents with his ability to get to the rim and on the glass. He attacks downhill with brute force, but is also skilled handling it and maneuvering through the defense. Solid jump shooter that has continued to make major strides in that area both creating his own shot and off the catch. Plus rebounder and overall a stat sheet stuffer. Fits the new age combo forward spot to perfection at the high-major level!
