Outstanding Player: Daylan Askew Daylan Askew 6'4" | SG Hertford County | 2021 State NC , NC Blazers
Throughout the weekend, Askew proved to be a prospect who’s stock is rising in the class of 2021. He showed off an advanced skillset getting to the rim and creating for others. He finished the weekend averaging 23.3 ppg while knocking down eight 3-pointers and finishing third in the division in total points (70). Askew is a prospect that plays with energy on both ends and has a high IQ for making his presence felt. He makes the game look easy, too.
Pure Scorer: Mike Herrin Mike Herrin 6'4" | CG Socastee | 2021 State SC , Manzer 2021
Herrin was an impressive prospect this past weekend given his ability to make an impact scoring the basketball. He didn’t waste much time with the ball in his hands, showing off his ability to get to the rim and score in traffic. He wasn’t too reliant on his jump shot but given his length and athleticism, he certainly stuck to his strengths and showed he can score with consistency. He finished the weekend leading the division in total points ( and scoring average (24.0 ppg).
Best Shooter: Kirk Pence, WV MPact 2021
Pence is a familiar face on the Big Shots stage and he’s a shot creator on all three levels worth taking a look at. He knocked down 10 free throws on the weekend, finishing in a 3-way tie for third, while also knocking down four 3-pointers from beyond the arc. At 6-foot-3, Pence is a problem shooting from anywhere on the floor.
Hard to Guard: Tykelvion Thompson, North Charleston All-Stars
Thompson was a load to defend against all weekend long and hard not to notice for the North Charleston All-Stars this past weekend. He stands at just 5-foot-10, but he made up for it with his ability to shift the defense with his speed and handles for easy buckets in the midrange and paint area. He put up 18.7 ppg and knocked down five 3-pointers as the lead guard for North Charleston All-Stars and showed he can lead by example when he’s on the floor.
Paint Presence: James Cooper James Cooper 6'9" | PF Mauldin | 2021 State SC , Big Shots Mauldin CPA
It seemed like James Cooper James Cooper 6'9" | PF Mauldin | 2021 State SC got better by the game for Big Shots Mauldin CPA this past weekend. He stands out given his size and frame at 6-foot-8 and moves well as a defender on the perimeter and in the paint. On offense, he’s a back-to-the-basket threat as well as prospect that can create on the perimeter, giving him tremendous upside as a two-way threat. He produced 10.7 ppg and showed poise on the boards and as a shot-blocker.
Best Defender: Javi Marlowe Javi Marlowe 6'1" | PG North Myrtle Beach | 2021 State SC , Manzer 2021
Marlowe was an impressive prospect this past weekend, especially on the defensive end. He didn’t back down from any matchup and showed he could compete on defense and find easy ways to score using his ability to pressure the basketball. He even concluded their semi-final game with a big steal and dunk on the fastbreak to cap off a victory against the Lowcountry Bulldogs. Anyone in need of a top-notch defender, look no further.
