Byrd was an impressive standout on both ends of the floor for Team HoopState, flying around for dunks & blocks en route to the 16U Gold crown. He’s developed as more than just a jumpshooter and attacks the rim with purpose consistently. Given his size at 6-foot-7, he’s a versatile prospect to look out for with a ton of potential. He holds an offer already from South Carolina State.
Pure Scorer: Rival Axselle, Team Richmond-Select
Axselle was a standout on Team Richmond-Select given his ability to move without the ball to find points. He was backdoor cutting, he was running to the rim, no matter what, when his team was on offense, he was looking to make a play and score the basketball. He finished averaging 13.5 ppg and with 51 total points on the weekend, showing off his ability to create using his 6-foot-3 height.
Best Shooter: Thomas Oppold Thomas Oppold 6'3" | SG Lucy Beckham | 2023 State SC , Lowcountry Storm
Oppold found ways to get points for his team and was a top shooter all weekend long from deep and inside the arc for Lowcountry Storm. He knocked down five 3-pointers to lead the 16U division while averaging 18.3 ppg for his squad. He’s a member of the 2022 class in South Carolina worth getting eyes on.
Hard to Guard: Keyon Webb, Team HoopState
Webb is a player that was impressive in a variety of ways for Team HoopState this past weekend. One way was his ability to score the basketball on all three levels. He’s a guard with a big frame at 6-foot-2 that he uses well to get to his spots on the floor. He knocked down five 3-pointers, made six free throws and averaged 12.3 ppg. By the weekend’s end, he had the attention of everyone in the gym.
Paint Presence: Heston Foster Heston Foster 6'3" | PF Flight 22 Post Grad | 2022 NC , Carolina Ballin 16U
Foster was a dominant force in the paint, despite getting hurt before the final game of the weekend. He’s a 6-foot-3 forward that likes to play physical down low on both ends and was a top performer scoring the ball. He put up 22 points, getting to the free throw line as well, in their opening game against Flight 22 Wilimington. He followed that up with a 17-point performance, scoring exclusively on the interior in the victory. He’s a frontcourt prospect in the 2022 class in South Carolina to keep eyes on.
