Continue ReadingShooting has become an essential part of basketball today. Every program could use more guys that can space the floor and put the ball in the hole. The DMV area is loaded with those types. Here are 6 available shooters who should be ready to make an impact at the next level from day one.
Tekao Carpenter Tekao Carpenter 6'1" | PG TC Williams | 2020 MD | TC Williams (VA)
Carpenter earned second-team All-District honors last season and is a strong candidate to truly breakout soon. A skilled 6-foot-2 guard who can light it up from the perimeter and is adept at creating space, he is a proven shotmaker who can compete at a high level as we saw last summer when he was with Team Durant.
Ryan Cornish Ryan Cornish 6'3" | CG Sidwell Friends | 2021 State MD | Sidwell Friends (DC)
On a Sidwell team that struggled to find offense at times, Cornish was a constant threat in part as a result of his long-range shooting ability. He is a skilled ball-handler who can isolate and consistently create looks from 1-on-1 scenarios. Cornish is equally effective moving without the ball and is always ready to shoot.
Cole Hanin Cole Hanin 5'10" | PG Bullis | 2021 State MD | Bullis (MD)
Hanin is an efficient lead guard who will usually not take a high volume of shots but instead searches for quality looks. If he gets into a rhythm, he can get hot and knock down several in a row with in-the-gym range.
Anthony Jackson | Potomac (VA)
When you watch Potomac play and Jackson is on the floor, you’ll notice that he’s rarely unaccounted for. If for some reason the opponents are not initially aware that he’s a threat from deep, he is more than capable of knocking down several threes in a row and putting points up on the board in a hurry.
Trevor Keels Trevor Keels 6'4" | SG Paul VI | 2021 State #18 Nation VA | Paul VI (VA)
Keels has gradually built an iron-clad reputation as a solid all-around player, with his shooting ability being one of his standout traits. We’ve seen him take and make crucial long-range jumpers time and time again. There’s no reason why that trend shouldn’t continue moving forward.
Day’sJuan Waters Day’sJuan Waters 6'3" | SF Good Counsel | 2021 State MD | Good Counsel (MD)
One of the best-kept secrets in the area, Waters was an integral part of Good Counsel’s offense last season. The 6-foot-4 wing drained 45 threes in 31 games at a 35% clip. This is no easy task in the WCAC, where the level of competition is high and the familiarity among teams usually leads to rock-solid gameplans aimed to neutralize the opponent’s strengths.
