The slate of games for Saturday included more teams, but even on Sunday, there was no shortage of talent in the gym.
Here are some intriguing 2021 guards that logged impressive outings.
Malik Edwards | 6’2 | WeR1
Edwards unfortunately suffered a knee injury in their last game of the day against Team Thrill. But in their first game he was an critical piece to their win over Team Choo. The 6-foot-2 combo guard finished that game with 18 points and was routinely finding his way to the rim or creating space for himself in the mid-range.
Ahmad Harrison Ahmad Harrison 6'1" | PG National Christian | 2022 MD | 6’1 | Team Thrill
Harrison’s best performance came in Thrill’s blowout win against NE6. The 6-foot-1 southpaw did his damage in the mid-range as the ball-handler. On multiple occasions he would get an edge on his defender, keep him in jail on his back hip and work his way into the target zone he wanted before rising up under control and knocking down shots. It’s been great getting the chance this summer to see Harrison featured as the point guard. He can bring valuable aspects to a program on both sides of the ball.
Dashon Gittens | 6’3 | NE6
Gittens impressed early on with his ability to blow by his defender thanks to a quick first step. The 6-foot-3 combo guard is shifty with a tight handle and can finish with craft to avoid shot-blocking bigs by the basket. At his size he can guard either backcourt position and he showed initiative to crash the glass defensively and push tempo.
Quentin Wells | 6’2 | Team Choo
Wells was a steady presence for Choo throughout their three games. The 6-foot-2 guard handles much of the ball handling duties when he’s on the floor, but also keeps his foot on the pedal as a scorer when opportunities arise. He averaged 10 points in the three contests and made the defense pay for leaving him open around the perimeter.
Jaheem Gadsden | 6’4 | Team Delaware ’21
Gadsden has some of the most explosive athleticism at the event along with an intriguing skill-set as a bigger guard. He’s at his best getting downhill an attacking driving lanes leading to bouncy finishes above or below the rim. I was shocked to hear that he currently holds no offers even at the Division II level.
