The slate of games for Saturday included more teams, but even on Sunday, there was no shortage of talent in the gym.
Below are the noteworthy 2022 guards who impressed during Sunday’s contests.
Christian Winborne Christian Winborne 6'2" | CG Gilman | 2022 State #199 Nation MD | 6’2 | Team Thrill
Winborne had himself a very successful weekend that resulted in earning his first offer from a high major program in LSU. In Sunday’s game against NE6 he paced Thrill to a blowout win and was impressive in the effort with 19 points. He scored in just about every fashion but stood out operating in his pull-up jumpers coming off of ball screens. Winborne’s dynamic scoring and floor leading abilities from the point guard position are starting to come to light with mid-to-high major schools and should see an uptick in his recruitment in the coming weeks.
Matt Devine | 6’2 | NE6
Devine was the bright spot for NE6 in the game against Thrill. The 6-foot-2 combo guard showcased his smooth jumpshot from three early and often on his way to a team-high 17 points, 12 of which came from deep off the catch. Devine also showcased accurate anticipation as a defender off the ball in passing lanes and created transition opportunities for his team.
Bryce Lindsay Bryce Lindsay 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2022 State MD | 6’2 | Team Thrill
Lindsay absolutely lit it up from three on Sunday. Known for his elite outside shooting, he’s also becoming an improved playmaker off the bounce as he and Winborne split time as primary ball-handlers. On top of his game-high 20 points, 15 of which came from three, Lindsay dished out seven assists, grabbed four rebounds and collected two steals. Similar to Winborne, Lindsay’s performance caught the eyes of many as Maryland and Purdue were two schools to reach out early this week.
Elmarko Jackson | 6’4 | WeR1
Jackson played up with the 17U squad from what I saw during Sunday’s slate. He made it evident that he was one of the most explosive athletes in attendance. Whether it was getting downhill in a half court setting and was quick to get out in the open floor where he can be a handful to keep under wraps. I had heard good things about Jackson prior to seeing him for the first time this past weekend and he lived up to the hype.
Jordan Pennick Jordan Pennick 6'1" | CG Archbishop Spalding | 2022 State MD | 6’0 | Team Choo
Pennick is a name that should be beginning to appear on college program’s radar. He’s a 6-foot combo guard who is one of the toughest at the position that you’ll find. A dual-sport athlete who is a standout on the gridiron, Pennick translates that mentality to the hardwood with his tenacious defense and ability to embrace contact on his drives to the bucket. Unlike most football players who split time with basketball, Pennick can really hurt the defense from the perimeter. In Team Choo’s three games Sunday he averaged 15.6 points per game and knocked down over a handful of three’s in said contests. He also rebounds at a plus rate for the guard position and supplies disruptive defensive pressure on the ball.
