This series will review my initial 15 players to watch as potential MVP candidates in the 757 this season. While this list will obviously be subject to change as the season begins and progresses, right now in my opinion these players have the best cases as MVP candidates. When considering this list, my criteria included considering their resumes and their current projected team situation.
4. Jaylani Darden Jaylani Darden 6'3" | CG Norview | 2021 State VA | 6’5 PG 2021 | Norview
Why: He grew on top of already being one of the premier guards in the state. At 6’5, Darden will find not many squads are capable of matching up with a guard with his physical gifts. Darden is a proven scorer who can drop 20 on you in his sleep. With multiple seniors leaving this Norview squad, Darden has every opportunity to dominate the court in his final season at Norview. I expect at least 20ppg from this lead guard on top of a handful of assists and rebounds.
5. Jayden Epps Jayden Epps 6'1" | CG Combine Academy | 2022 State #41 Nation NC | 6’2 PG 2022 | Kings Fork
Why: Numbers. Epps averaged around 26 and 6 last season as a sophomore on Kings Fork. This electrifying guard can light it up from deep instantly. Epps is on a star studded team which is the only way I can see his numbers taking a hit at all. Despite the talent around him, Epps finds a way to stand out. While his scoring may suffer slightly with the addition of new talent like 2023 Kaleb Brown Kaleb Brown 6'3" | SG King's Fork | 2023 VA , Epps has a chance to raise his assist numbers this year as a junior.
6. Christian Moore Christian Moore 6'1" | CG Cape Henry | 2021 State VA | 6’2 CG 2021 | Cape Henry
Why: Perfect situation. Cape Henry has the chance to go on an absolute tear this tear with Moore at the helm. Christian Moore Christian Moore 6'1" | CG Cape Henry | 2021 State VA is one of the best lead guards in the state and has held his own against some of the best. This calculated guard is excellent at picking apart the defense. Moore will be operating with a massive frontcourt, allowing him chances for easy drop off assists. While he is not a ball hog or a high volume shooter(he consistently is unselfish) Moore will still put up at least 17 and will win.
