Continue Reading270 Hoops expanded their live streams by including some of the top talent across the entire state Tuesday evening. The Ohio Challenge featured guys from all over the state with many prospects being Division 1 level players. While all 20 guys played extremely well, I highlight the 5 that stood out to me and made their names known.
Corey Tripp Corey Tripp 6'3" | PG Medina | 2021 State OH 6’3 PG (Medina)- This was only my second time seeing Tripp and I have to say I liked what I saw from him on such a big stage. The 6’3 PG possesses high level athleticism which he uses to penetrate and drive into bigger defenders. Shot the heck out of the ball with confidence to pull up from the wings. I like his size combined with his ability to run the offense. Currently holds offers from Bowling Green and Cleveland State.
Cliron Hornbeak Cliron Hornbeak 6'9" | C Toledo St. Francis | 2021 State OH 6’10 C (Toledo St. Francis)- Hornbeak is a recent Kent State commit that absolutely dominated in the Ohio Challenge. Strong build with his length and frame. With the ball on the block, showed he could back down defenders and overwhelm them with his size. Was very tough to defend straight on and attracted double teams after the first few games. Knows how to use his body on the block and uses key footwork to get shots at the rim.
AJ Braun AJ Braun 6'9" | C Fenwick | 2021 State OH 6’9 PF/C (Fenwick)- One of the other solid bigs in the event, Braun specifically impressed in his team’s first game of the night. A bulky PF/C combo, Braun has a nice touch at the rim, getting his shoulders squared to the rim and seemed to finish consistently with traffic. Scored with his back to the basket and over the shoulder. Most impressed me with his versatility and was capable of scoring in different ways. A solid rebounder with a high motor. Has multiple LM offers currently.
Desmond Watson Desmond Watson 6'5" | SF Columbus DeSales | 2021 State #207 Nation OH 6’5 SF (Columbus St. Francis DeSales)- In my opinion the best player on the floor and MVP of the event, Watson is one of the most athletic players in the state and continues to show why he is a target at the MM/LM level. Breaks down the defense with his speed and size. Finds the lane and the rim in minimum amount of dribbles. Threw down a phenomenal dunk over Aidan Noyes Aidan Noyes 6'6" | SF Moeller | 2021 State OH with his elite bounce. Passing the ball better and setting guys up to score. Should continue to see more schools offer, especially at the MM level.
Ramelle Arnold Ramelle Arnold 6'0" | PG Warrensville Heights | 2021 State OH 6’0 PG (Warrensville Heights)- Arnold did a lot with the ball in his hand and showed he will fight to get open shots. Impressed with his midrange and 3PT shooting touch as he could score in both levels. Kept moving on the floor and set himself up for scoring opportunities with the backdoor cut. Holds an offer currently from Fairmont State.
