Is it possible that I gave this certain prospect the confidence to play at a high level? Maybe. But, I won’t find out until the 2020-21 season starts.
I took a look at five other prospects who could make a jump in the 2022 player rankings. Hopefully, these players have been staying in shape and staying in an open gym.
I’m pretty sure I will get someone on this list motivated to go ball out.
Here are five players who could make a jump in the 2022 player rankings.
Caleb Jackson, Cordova: Jackson has taken advantage of the dead summer. He’s been in the gym working on his game. Jackson, who came in at No. 41, is now 6-foot-2. So, Wolfpack head coach Terrence Scales will have size in his backcourt. Jackson is a smart, patient point guard who makes Cordova a lot better. He has solid ball handles and can shoot from long range. Jackson will be a positive for the Wolfpack in multiple ways. He could end up in the top 30 before his high school basketball career is done.
Micah Simpson, Morristown East: Simpson seemed to have taken the necessary strides on the defensive end. The 6-0 point guard is already an offensive threat. Simpson knows how to affect the game with his scoring and passing abilities. If he continues to get better on the defensive end, Simpson has a chance to crack the bottom half of the top 20.
Malik Dia, Ensworth: Dia isn’t an athletic small forward, but he has good footwork. He can step out and knock down the 3. Defensively, I need to see more. Can he guard his position? It’s still early to say. Dia has the makeup of a Division 1 basketball player. He just needs to continue to put it all together. Dia, at No. 13, could crack the top 10. It’s all on him.
Pres Patterson, Knoxville Catholic: Patterson is a 5-10 guard that’s very patient on offense. He moves well without the basketball. On the defensive end, he makes his assignment work for every point. Patterson is currently at No. 14. I’m not ready to say he can crack the top 10, but he could move up a couple of spots before he graduates.
Handje Tamba, Knoxville Catholic: If no other team in Division II-AA has a 7-footer next season, then Tamba will probably put up solid numbers. With Brian Edwards Jr Brian Edwards Jr 6'3" | PG Knoxville Catholic | 2022 State #82 Nation TN . at point guard, Tamba will get the proper touches. He proved last season to be an energized big man on the glass, pulling down 4.8 rebounds per game. I will need to see what all he can do on the offensive end. Tamba is right outside the top 15 at No. 16. If he becomes a force in the paint, Tamba is clearly a top 10 player in the state.
