In the coming weeks we could possibly see more guys coming off the board but time will tell. In this series I will be breaking down the recruitment’s of some of the top available prospects from the state. Here is part two of the series.
2021 6’7 Markus Ilver Markus Ilver 6'7" | SF Massanutten | 2021 OH | Massanutten
Markus was somewhat of a hidden gym in the state of Virginia and actually just announced he is transferring to a high school in Ohio. The 6’7 small forward has a ton of upside which includes playing at the high major level. In July he picked up offers from VCU and Wisconsin and if there was no pandemic a bunch of more schools around that level would have quickly dished out an offer. Markus is one to watch in the 2021 class as his name is still getting out there.
2021 6’7 Clarence Rupert Clarence Rupert 6'7" | PF Miller School | 2021 State VA | Miller School
Rupert might not be on this list much longer as Murray State seems to be in really good hands with the 6’7 power forward. Rupert was one of the state’s breakout players two summers ago and had a lot of schools on him especially after finishing this past season with an average of 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. If things fall through with Murray State, Rupert is a monster in the paint and a nice addition to a slew of schools who need a four man.
2021 6’0 Mike Gray Mike Gray 5'10" | PG Landon | 2022 State MD | Blue Ridge
If you want a true winner at the point guard position, Gray is your guy. Growing up and playing in the winning tradition that Blue Ridge has to offer, Gray is one of the toughest point guards I saw this past season. He is not going to blow you away with his speed but his grit, toughness, iq and willingness to win is what separates him from others. Gray’s recruitment seems to be a little slow at the moment but whoever lands him will get a winner at the lead guard position.
2021 6’2 Allen Strothers Allen Strothers 6'2" | PG Menchville | 2021 State VA | Menchville
I still feel like Strothers best basketball is ahead of him as he continues to get older. The 6’2 guard is shifty with a good handle that can distribute the ball well but also score when needed. I have always been impressed with what Strothers can do when the ball is in his hands. He is another guy whose recruitment has been tough to get a read on as Towson is the only school to offer him in the 2020 calendar year.
2021 6’3 Jaylani Darden Jaylani Darden 6'3" | CG Norview | 2021 State VA | Norview
If there was AAU basketball this summer, a lot of people would know more about Darden. A star in the 757 this past season for Norview, Darden is a good energy player that is going to make an impact whenever he is in the game. Look for him to put up big time numbers during his senior season which will only help his recruitment. Oral Roberts and Tennessee Tech have offered this summer.
