But there were so many great posts at the tournament at Kansas City that the kids from Kansas deserve a second look.
Here is another handful of top Kansas posts to compete in the 17U Division of The Finale (in alphabetical order and with club and high school listed):
Garrett Athon, Kansas Hoggs 17U, Jefferson West:
A big, thick-bodied post, Athon gives maximum effort at both ends of the floor. The 6-foot-4 rising senior is sturdy and willing to get physical. He has long arms and goes after every rebound. He is an effective passer from the post, and has good moves around the goal.
Andrew Brewer, MoKan Select 17U, Shawnee Mission South:
Without doing anything flashy, Brewer can really affect the game. With so much talent around him, the 6-foot-5 Brewer does a lot of the dirty work for MoKan. He’s got good moves around the goal, and ability to catch and score on the move. He has great hands to catch on the run or while heavily defended. Defensively, he’s hard-nosed, rebounding and guarding against big, athletic men. He’s sturdy, but also nimble and quick for a post player. He can outrun most other bigs.
Dayton Logan, SSA White 17U, Mission Valley:
An honorable mention 2A returner, Logan is a good passer from the lane. He is comfortable on the perimeter and can shoot from beyond the arc or on pull-up jumpers. He’s 6-foot-5 and a big, physical presence in the post. He won’t be bodied out by anyone and has good hands to catch or rebound.
Cade Wilson, SSA White 17U, Manhattan:
Look for Wilson to be an impact player for the Indians this fall. Manhattan was senior-laden and guard-rich, but now the 6-foot-3 Wilson might bring something different to the table. He is most adept at catching and scoring around the goal or from short range. He has good hands and ability to carve out space. He’s also an unselfish and hard-working player who creates opportunities and follows teammates’ misses.
Noah Simmons, TBB KS – Gaddis 17U, Valley Center:
The 6-foot-7 Simmons is big and strong and makes his living in the paint. He fights relentlessly for rebounds and has the power to overwhelm in the post. He has a fade-away shot and a catch-and-shoot jumper out to about 15 feet. He isn’t flashy, but his combination of height, size and power makes an impact.
Joshua Symonetta, Perry Ellis 34 17U, Life Prep:
A 6-foot-6 team-player and grinder, Symonetta is long and athletic. He is an effective passer to wings and into the post. He sets screens and helps keep the offense moving with solid passing. He goes strong after misses and has the size, strength combination to be a good defender and rebounder.
