In (Part II) we will take an in depth look at some of the underclassman and incoming transfers joining the program. It is noteworthy to mention that Alpha Bangura Jr. a rising senior in the class of 2021, has transferred to the Westtown School and will also be mentioned in this article. Along with the senior class, the Westtown School will have some of the top rising sophomores and juniors in the state of Pennsylvania as well as the nation.
Alpha Bangura Jr. (6’9”) (Guard/Forward) (Class of 2021)
Alpha Bangura Jr., has recently transferred to the Westtown School. Bangura Jr. is a very versatile player and is valuable on both ends of the floor. Defensively, Bangura Jr. does it all. He has the ability to pressure guards on the perimeter and has the size and athleticism to protect to the paint. The 6’9” rising senior uses his length well to block shots. Additionally, Bangura Jr. is a good athlete and can get up and down the court quickly. He is a solid rebounder and can play above the rim. Bangura Jr. will be an exciting player to watch this upcoming season.
Bangura Jr. has received several Division I offers. Some of the programs that have offered Bangura Jr. include; Robert Morris University, Siena College, Stetson University, Canisius College, St. Peter’s University, University of Massachusetts, Marist College, Long Island University, Manhattan College, and others.
Dereck Lively II Dereck Lively II 7'1" | C Westtown School | 2022 State #3 Nation PA (7’0”) (Center) (Class of 2022)
Dereck Lively II Dereck Lively II 7'1" | C Westtown School | 2022 State #3 Nation PA is another top national prospect. The seven foot center is a game changer that can dominate both ends of the floor. Offensively, Lively II is matchup nightmare. His size and length combined with his athletic ability alone creates mismatches for opponents. The big man runs the floor exceptionally well and has great bounce. He is an excellent finisher around the rim and will dunk anything and everything that is thrown his way. Defensively, Lively II controls the paint. He is an elite shot blocker. The rising junior is capable of altering shots by just putting his hands up. Lively II also provides a dominant presence on the floor as a rebounder. He’s especially tough to stop on the offensive glass and rebounds above the rim.
Lively II has received multiple offers from high major Division I schools. Some of the offers Lively II has received include; Florida State University, University of Miami, University of Memphis, Ohio State University, University of Florida, University of California Los Angeles, Southern Methodist University, University of Pittsburgh, University of Miami, Penn State University, Temple University, Western Kentucky University, Providence College, Louisiana State University and others.
Quin Berger (6’1”) (Guard) (Class of 2022)
Quin Berger is a very skilled guard with a high basketball IQ. Offensively, the 6’1” guard can impact the game by scoring and creating for his teammates. He is a great shooter that can spot up several feet behind the three point line. Berger’s versatility as a playmaker and scorer can cause problems for opposing team defenses. He is a natural scorer and a tough matchup for even the best of defenders. The combo guard has a smooth shooting release and requires very little space to get his shot off. Berger should have a great upcoming junior season and is definitely a player to keep an eye on this year.
Wade Chiddick (6’4”) (Guard) (Class of 2022)
Wade Chiddick is a phenomenal shooter that finds ways to score the basketball. Chiddick has a quick shooting release and does a really nice job of setting his feet behind the three point line. Chiddick has the ability to destroy zone defenses with his deep shooting range. At 6’4” Chiddick can present matchup problems for opposing guards. He uses his size well to finish at the rim. Defensively, Chiddick has active hands and plays the passing lanes well. He also has the ability to get up and pressure opposing ball handlers.
Trey O’Neil (5’9”) (Guard) (Class of 2023)
Trey O’Neil is a highly skilled point guard that can score the basketball. O’Neil has an advanced handle and a lightning quick first step. Scoring wise the rising sophomore can put up points in a multitude of ways. He can shoot beyond the arc, get all the way to the rim, as well as utilize the mid range game. O’Neil has a solid pull up and has a consistent floater that makes him tough to stop once he beats his man off of the dribble. He can also cause problems for opposing defenses by getting into the lane and creating for his teammates. O’Neil shows veteran poise with the basketball and has great court vision. O’Neil is another underclassmen to keep an eye on over the next few years.
Matt Mayock (6’4) (Guard) (Class of 2023)
Matt Mayock is a recent transfer from Conestoga High School. He is a gifted ball handler and playmaker that can run the show. Mayock’s size at 6’4” combined with his ability to shoot the basketball, conduct the offense, and create for others makes him a unique player. As a knock down shooter, Mayock can open the floor for his teammates. He is able to relocate around the perimeter and shoot off the catch threes. Mayock is yet another underclassmen that will be exciting to watch over the next few years.
Kevin Kang (6’1”) (Guard) (Class of 2022)
Kevin Kang is another great shooter that can open up the floor for his teammates. The rising junior can knock down shots around the perimeter. Kang’s ability to shoot the basketball can create additional kick out options. Kang’s presence on the floor can provide additional floor space and driving lanes for his teammates.
