I’d been wanting to see some of HYPE Hawks groups since teams began working out again in early June, so it was fun to see their 16U’s in action against TN Passion, playing up a division with all 2023’s on their roster …
~~ Baldwin High School is nearly 100 miles from Midtown Atlanta, so it might not be a surprise for players from down in Milledgeville to go slightly unnoticed, but this HYPE group boasts a trio of fine guards all set to make big noise for the Braves this coming season, Christian Burnett was particularly impressive in a combo guard role, draining one three-pointer after the next, showing a sweet handle when with the ball, and playing physical at both ends, Rudolph Satcher was noticeable for his energy and confidence, he too is a slick ballhandler who wasn’t afraid to get tot he basket, and though a little more diminutive than his compadres, Kunta Kelsey showed he could score from all 3 levels and had an understanding on the floor that will serve him well as he matures his body …
Was excited to see MvaOutlawz 17U’s on the floor for some tourney action, and they got solid contributions against Celtics South from multiple players …
~~ I got my first look at McEachern’s Jade Rose for coach Adrian Ranson, and the point guard was notable both for his fiery and physical play, but also for his terrific passing and speed getting up the floor, it will be fascinating to see him in concert with the likes of Chance and Bobby Moore Bobby Moore 6'5" | SF McEachern | 2021 State GA going downhill at the wings this winter …
~~ The Lewis’ also had a nice day, as Isaiah had his long-range stroke going, while lead guard Immanuel continues to look solid out front and was one of the best on-ball defenders I saw all day, the two making for a nice combo going forward for Alpharetta HS …
~~ Johns Creek’s Steven Lyles seemingly always makes a strong impression game in and game out, he does so many things well on the floor, he’s almost too unselfish at spots in that he inadvertently misses chances to beat his defender for his own offense, but that unselfishness is ultimately an asset for a player with superb vision whose athletic traits will continue to garner him attention from the next level …
~~ It was Jonathan Ellis Jonathan Ellis 6'6" | SF Brunswick | 2021 State GA ’ first appearance for the Outlawz, and the rangy 6-6 post-man from Brunswick HS strikes an imposing figure with his athletic frame, he was very active at both ends guarding the rim and hitting the glass, he wasn’t asked to take his offensive game out past 5 feet so it will be interesting to see as the summer wears on if he can face the basket and utilize his own athletic gifts to create for himself.
