Some of the top teams from Minnesota, the Dakotas and Wisconsin were in Sioux Falls last weekend for the Summer Slam.

Here were some of the top 16U guards from play Saturday:

Trent Freih, ECI Select Hanson

Freih was a bright spot for ECI Select Hanson throughout play on Saturday. The West Fargo Sheyenne combo guard is a strong athlete who did a great job consistently getting to the rim either off the bounce or on cuts. His effort level was a big positive as well, as it afforded his team consistent extra opportunities.

Sam Brumfield, ND Attack 16U

Brumfield did a great job creating his own shot off the dribble, and has the size/strength to get into the paint and either make a play for himself or a teammate. The Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier guard is a crafty scorer around the basket and has the athleticism to make an impact on the defensive end of the floor.

Nate Fedorchak, ND Phenom

Fedorchak had some good moments for ND Phenom over the weekend, showcasing a smooth, pretty outside jumper which was deadly in catch-and-shoot situations. The Bismarck St. Mary’s wing produced well as a cutter off the ball too, using his shooting ability to threaten defenders into overplaying him. And he showed a competitiveness on the defensive end, routinely disrupting opposing ballhandlers or causing havoc in the passing lanes.

Ian Motschenbacher, ECI Prospects

Motschenbacher was a bit up and down with his jumpshot Saturday, but his shot looks good and he’s able to get it off quickly and create his own shot off the bounce. The Fargo Davies lead guard has a smooth handle and is comfortable attacking gaps and making plays for either himself or his teammates too.

Parker Nelson, ECI Prospects

Nelson was another plus guard for ECI Prospects on Saturday. The West Fargo combo guard is an excellent perimeter shooter and excels especially in catch-and-shoot situations. He’s a good decision-maker and steady with the ball, but capable off the ball as a spot up guy or cutter. And his defense was solid, as he was always in good position to both apply help for teammates, and put pressure on his counterpart.
