Every once in a while this area will produce a couple of individuals that will jump onto the radar, and get the attention of scouts and college coaches with their ability to play basketball.
Kyle Monk 6’2 Combo Guard, Gregori HS (Modesto, CA)
A fairly athletic player, Monk has a good shooting stroke from behind the arc, and can hit the mid-range shot, 10 ppg. He’s at his best in the open court where he’s fast, has good strong finishes, including dunks. He’s an active player with good balance, hands, and good anticipation on defense. He has good hops that help him rebound 4 a game, and he jumps well off two feet.
Kobe Nunes Kobe Nunes 6'1" | CG Gregori | 2022 State CA-N 6’1 Guard, Oakdale HS (Oakdale, CA)
A heads up player who plays an all around game for this team, a solid bodied player who plays under control, is aggressive on the drive, and finishes strong off two feet (like Monk), and aggressively when he goes baseline. Nunes has good court vision often finding cutters, and open teammates on the wings with good solid passes. He sets his feet and has a quick release on long range 3’s, that he hits with some regularity. He uses screens to his advantage.
Nnaji Precious 6’3 Forward, Patterson HS (Patterson, CA)
A physically built athlete who plays forward on this team, is really strong and hard to stop when he gets it going in the post area. He uses his body well, and will bang with the taller players for rebounds 7.1 a game. He has shown some ability to handle the ball, and play on the perimeter with a two dribble drive into the paint, where he can hit the elbow jumper. His strength, and lateral movement often causes problems for others when he’s out front in a trapping style defense. Improving his outside shot, and handles will raise his game.
Jack Henderson 5’11 Combo Guard, Denair HS, ( Denair, CA)
A feisty guard who can play both positions, he doesn’t have great speed, but has deceptive ball handling skills, and uses his body well to protect the ball. Denair a school that plays in the small division went 26-4, and 12-0 in league, because of the consistent play of Henderson, who can also slide over to the wings and knock down open 3’s if left open. He done a good job running the team in half court sets. He’s a good passer and makes good decisions with the ball. His scoring should go up next season from 6 pts a games.
Mario Placencia 6’2 Wing, Denair HS (Denair, CA)
Placencia a teammate of Henderson did a lot of the little things that may go unnoticed. A good player who plays under control and with balance. He has good hands and finishes well off the backdoor cut. He sees the floor to make good passes, he has active hands and rebounds well for this team 7.9 a game.
Anthony Leon 6’1 Guard, Riverbank HS (Riverbank, CA)
An active guard with good hands, and always alert. He’s a good defender, with his arms and feet always moving, that led to deflections, and turnovers. He’s a confident player who works hard on both ends of the court, but seems most effective in transition. He had some success pulling up from behind the 3-point line at the top.
