To coincide with that, colleges are making offers to players in the classes of 2021 and 2022. It is an exciting time for basketball and we will take a look at the signings, commitments, and offers from the past couple of weeks in Louisiana.
Signings & Commitments
North Louisiana players and schools saw alot of action from the 2020 class in reference to commitments and signings. The biggest signing/commitment during this time was Green Oaks all-district performer Isreal Edwards Isreal Edwards 6'3" | CG Green Oaks | 2020 State LA (6’3). He will be playing with the G-Men of Grambling State. Centenary College continued adding all-district and all-state performers to their roster with the signing of Antonio Cormier (6’3″/Rayne) and Devante Jack (6’2″/Jena). Roderick Ransom, Jr. (6’3″/Vidalia) inked his letter with Division II school Spring Hill College.
In the JUCO ranks, class B Most Outstanding Player Decari Markray Decari Markray 6'3" | CG Doyline | 2020 State LA (6’4″/Doyline) committed to playing with Bossier Parish CC along with 6’7″ forward Kamryn Guidry Kamryn Guidry 6'7" | C Northwest | 2020 State LA from Northwest in Opelousas. The Southside Sharks had their first signing in their brief school history with Kallin Fonseca (6’3″) going to South Georgia Tech.
2021 & 2022 Offers
Players in the 2021 and 2022 classes received additional offers in the last couple of weeks. Camryn Carter (6’2″) really impressed Power 5 schools after his play at the Power 24 tournament in Atlanta. He received offers from Virginia Tech of the ACC and both Mississippi Southeastern Conference schools (Ole Miss & Mississippi State). Tulane became the fourth school after the tournament to make Carter an offer.
There were a host of other players who received offers as well. JonQuarius McGhee (6’3″/Opelousas) received an offer from Nicholls State. Helen Cox guard Alexzaye Johnson Alexzaye Johnson 6'4" | PG St Benedicts Prep | 2023 State NJ (6’2″) garnered his first offer from UMass-Lowell. All-state performers Kyran Ratliff (6’7″/KIPP BTW) and Percy Daniels Percy Daniels 6'8" | PF Madison Prep | 2022 State LA (6’8″/Madison Prep) added to their growing list of offers. Ratliff received an offer from former LSU coach Johnny Jones and Texas Southern while Daniels picked up offers from Tulane and Grambling State. Closing out the latest known offers was North Alabama offering a scholarship to sharpshooting guard Daniel Ortiz Daniel Ortiz 6'1" | CG Calvary Baptist | 2021 State LA (6’1″).
With the month of August coming, the grassroots season should be wrapping up as the beginning of school approaches. This month will also bring about prospect camps at the various colleges and universities in the Ark-La-Tex, Ark-La-Miss, and other surrounding areas.
