As we work our way through these unusual times many of these prospects are still hoping to showcase their talents before summer ends. They have been putting in good work whether it’s weight room, on the track conditioning, or open runs. Here’s an update.
Oziyah Sellers Oziyah Sellers 6'3" | SG Modesto Christian | 2022 #162 Nation CA-S 6’3 Guard, Modesto Christian HS (Modesto, CA)
A rising prospect in this talented group of 2022’s in NorCal. It looks like he’s improved his handles and added some muscle to a frame that will allow him to attack the rim more often, he’s been known for his ability to knock down 3’s in a game, this will add more balance to his overall game. He’s a smart player that doesn’t make a lot of mistakes on the court. He moves well without the ball, he gets up the court fast in transition, spots up well for corner 3’s. He’s underrated as a defender, good quickness, light on his feet and recovers quickly. He has the attention of DI coaches.
Miles Byrd Miles Byrd 6'6" | SF Lincoln | 2022 State #174 Nation CA-N 6’6 Wing, Lincoln HS (Stockton, CA)
The long armed wiry prospect is starting to fill his frame, he’s grown a few inches 6’6, and has expanded his game. The wing led Lincoln in scoring and rebounding, 12.3 ppg, 6.4 rebs. His steady rise in this class is no mistake, he’s attracted the attention of college coaches with his length, improving ball handling skills, and ability to play on the perimeter. He can drive his way into the paint for a mid-range jumper to shoot over defenders, finish around the basket, or knock down a 3. He has an improving game and a growing body. He has multiple DI schools showing interest.
Deven Thompkins 6’5 Forward St. Mary’s HS, (Stockton, CA)
Thompkins a good size athlete who’s active and aggressive on both ends of the court. I haven’t see a lot of this young prospect, that puts him on Wright’s Player to Watch list. He does a good job in and around the basket, he takes it strong off of one, or two dribbles to the rim for strong finishes, he can step out and shoot a set 3-pointer. A tenacious defender who can defend the post area and wings. He has good hops to go after rebounds and blocks. A double, double guy in high school. Points, rebs.
Franlys Arias Franlys Arias 6'6" | PF Brookside Christian | 2022 CA-S 6’6 Forward (Stockton, CA)
A player with a good frame, like others he’s still developing his overall skill set. Arias’s production on the court was important to Brookside Christian success this past season, 8.4 ppg, 8.4 rebs. Arias’s footwork is good around the basket, he has a soft touch around the basket and can finish with his left or right hand. He’s a decent rebounder with good outlet passes. If he develops his mid-range game, and bulks up a bit his game will rise. He should be a double, double guy in points, and rebounds next season.
Bronson Burrow 6’7 Forward, Ripon HS (Ripon, CA)
Burrow earned All-League playing only half the season at Ripon, averaging 10.4ppg, and 7.9 rebs a game. He’s a solid body player that brings good effort to the court. He has a good understanding of the game, and what he can do on the court. He moves well, sets good screens, cuts to the basket, he has good hands and finishes well off two feet. He has a decent jump hook, and can hit the mid-range shot. He’s on Wright’s Player to Watch list.
Devin Day Devin Day 6'3" | SG Farmington | 2022 State UT 6’2 Shooting Guard, Modesto Christian HS, Modesto, CA)
Day didn’t play this past season because of injury, all indications are he’s healthy and ready to compete. Going on what I observed his Freshman season, Devin will knock down 3’s, if you don’t stay close to him. He has a quick release, good shooting form and he sets his feet fast. Improving his handles and getting into the paint will balance his game. Coming off injury we’ll see how he progresses. He on my Wright’s Player to Watch list. He’s getting DI attention.
