The 6-foot-10 post had a breakout sophomore campaign at Sprague which led to his first college scholarship offer and has schools all over the country intrigued. Morgan is now looking forward to continuing his development against high-level competition, preparing himself this off-season for club and high school hoops in the months ahead.
“My gym is open still but other than that there are some places I can go to work out,” Morgan said. “I’ve been lifting three days a week and I’ve been working on my ball-handling and my post moves. That’s what I’m really focused on right now.”
Something that also has caught Morgan’s attention is his early college recruitment. A mobile big man with a soft touch from three, he’s fielded plenty of phone calls from Division I schools and while most of them have come into the picture just these past couple of months, Montana State made the loudest statement by giving Morgan his first scholarship offer in January.
“That was crazy – it’s everybody’s dream to get their first offer,” Morgan said. “It was one of the best feelings I’ve ever had in my life. But right now I’m just going to keep things open.”
Other schools that have been in touch with Morgan include schools on the West Coast such as Idaho State and Pepperdine, but programs on the East Coast such as Lipscomb and Mount St. Mary’s have also reached out.
“While everything has been shut down it’s been weird for me but my name has been getting out there with different coaches around the nation,” “Just to get people to notice me here in my hometown, that’s my goal.”
As his recruitment develops, Morgan is looking forward to getting on the court again against quality competition. He’s already gotten a feel for what the club basketball circuit will have to offer having worked out with some of his teammates with the Oregon Prospects 16U squad.
“I’ve never really been on a team with this many guys 6-foot-7 plus,” Morgan said. “I’ve always been the biggest man so it’s fun to be able to play the guard sometimes and bring the ball up. And it’s crazy, I’ve never played competition like this before. It’s fun to play against guys a lot better than you.”
Morgan currently ranks as the #4 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
