Recruiting Report: Jordan Hawkins (2021)
Jordan Hawkins Jordan Hawkins 6'5" | SF DeMatha | 2021 State #41 Nation MD is managing his time away from competitive travel basketball wisely. The 6-foot-6 wing, who was supposed to be competing with Team Durant on the EYBL this summer, won’t get that opportunity because the league was shut down to observe social distancing guidelines. Hawkins, who is coming off a season in which he helped DeMatha win its latest WCAC Championship, is calling this his “summer of separation.”
“I’ve been getting endless work in. Whenever I get an opportunity to work out, I do it,” he told Prep Hoops during a recent interview. “I’ve been running at 5:30 every morning with my mom. Getting the cardio in, trying to get back in shape. I’m just trying to beat the competition.”
Hawkins acknowledged that his confidence is at an all-time high after completing his first season in the WCAC. His defense in particular is one thing that continues to improve rapidly, as we alluded to during the past season.
“DeMatha prepared me for a lot. I’m more confident in my game now,” he stated. “I feel like I can guard anybody in the league. Playing in the toughest conference, I have had to defend some of the toughest guards in the nation. So, I feel like I can guard anybody.”
This time last year, Hawkins had 4 division one offers. Today, he is being actively recruited by several high major programs from conferences such as the ACC, SEC, and Big East. Wake Forest, who has made Hawkins a priority, completed a Zoom call with him before our interview. Last week, Texas became the first Big 12 school to offer him a scholarship.
Hawkins says he is looking for a school with a good coach that believes in him, will help him improve, and lead him to his ultimate goal of playing in the NBA. When asked where he sees himself five years from now, he replied:
“In the NBA. Hopefully, I’ll be an All-Star. I know I can do it. I put in the work and I have the confidence in myself to do it.”
