Hurlburt has the potential to move to high four star status as a recruit after averaging 21.2 points, 15 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.5 blocks a game for an 18-2 team at Enderlin. Joe shot 51 percent from the floor and 77 percent from the foul line. Joe also took four threes a game and made 37 percent of those treys. The skill is oozing out of this 225 pound talent.
This weekend Hurlburt played with D1 Minnesota at the Jammin in July event in Ames, Iowa. Hurlburt scored 11 points with seven boards in his first game but a foot injury mid way through game two limited his time and his effectiveness. It was a fantastic start to a weekend by weekend season that will extend into mid-August.
“It was a lot of fun to play with my guys again after so long. I hurt my toe in the second game so I was kinda hobbled,” Hurlburt explained. So what has Joe seen expand in his game since getting back in the gym with D1 Minnesota?
“I’d say my face up game in the post is something that my coach has been helping me get better at.”
Hurlburt’s initial offer came from North Dakota more than a year ago. Colorado was the first high major to offer followed by Iowa and Wisconsin, plus Joe earned an NDSU offer. This past weekend Minnesota extended the offer to Hurlburt and it’s an opportunity that really has Joe’s interest.
“It’s super cool, I was a Gopher fan growing up my whole life so getting an offer means a lot.”
In addition to the four high major programs that have offered, Hurlburt also has a long list of schools calling.
“Nebraska, Indiana, Ohio State, Stanford, Gonzaga, Arizona, Memphis are some of the schools I’ve talked to in the past couple days,” Joe said.
As far as timeline, dates, visits, etc, all of that is up in the air and things Hurlburt will be concerned about once people can get back on college campuses.
