“I’m hearing from JMU, Seton Hall, Bryant, Clemson, Akron, Air Force, GW, and George Mason,” Buchanan told Prep Hoops during a recent interview. “And more recently VCU, East Carolina, and UNC Charlotte.”
Buchanan added that Seton Hall and George Washington have offered him scholarships respectively, and both schools are standing out at the moment. In the last 12 months, his development has accelerated as a result of going from one of the guys to the guy at Wilson.
“At first it was hard because I had to learn quickly, but it’s cool because I’m still learning,” Buchanan said. Coach H[ernandez] did a good job of preparing me so I feel fine. As I keep going, I can feel myself getting better and mentally stronger.”
During social distancing, Buchanan has made an effort to stay fit. He’s working hard on improving his strength and conditioning by running and hitting the weights. Skill work has also been a priority. Buchanan mentioned that he’s been doing ball-handling and shooting drills as well as exercises that will help improve his footwork.
Buchanan prides himself on being a student of the game. While he does not model his game after anyone specific, he watches a lot of basketball and incorporates little things he sees into his game. It’s also worth noting that Buchanan understands the value of a good education. When asked where he sees himself in five years, he replied:
“I see myself playing division one basketball and pursuing my academic career. The ball will stop bouncing someday so I need to have a plan. I’m just waiting to see what the next chapter holds.”
