The Jacobsen name is synonymous with Ashland-Greenwood Basketball. Cale Jacobsen Cale Jacobsen 6'3" | CG Ashland Greenwood | 2022 State NE ’s father Brad was the head coach at AGHS for 14 years up until 2010. Now in 2020, Brad is the principal of Ashland-Greenwood, as well as the head coach of Lincoln Supreme’s National 16U squad, and Cale is making his name known across Nebraska as a multi-sport athlete. He has played wide receiver and safety for the Bluejays’ football team and switched to the quarterback position last season where he will again be in the fall, but his bread and butter has always been on the hardwood. He averaged 23.8 points a game during his sophomore campaign, helping Ashland Greenwood reach the Class C1 state tournament for the first time since 2007, a moment that resonates with Cale for reasons on and off the court. He called it his best basketball memory, saying, “I think our state tournament game is probably the most exciting, it was really special how much our community cared even though they couldn’t go to the game.”
At 6’3, Jacobsen is an athletic lefty guard who plays smart and tough, and he showed everybody in attendance at the #HardWorkSZN Classic this past weekend in Omaha that he can do just about anything as he was all over the floor every game for Supreme. Battling for rebounds on both ends of the floor, setting up teammates with good passes, and slashing to the rim and finishing strong. Cale himself thinks this is the strongest aspect of his game and what makes him stand out amongst the competition telling me, “I think the way that I can get to the rim, finish through and around contact, as well my ability to fill up the stat sheet really sets me apart from other guards.” Always working to get better, he talked about how he is “working on becoming more consistent shooting off the dribble and on the move,” while also noting that he watches and studies a lot of different players to try to find ways to improve his game.
When it comes to the rest of this calendar year, Jacobsen said, “I just want to finish AAU strong, and then be ready for high school ball when the time comes.” He currently holds two D2 offers from Nebraska Kearney and Missouri Western, but has also received plenty of D1 interest since schools started reaching out to 2022 prospects back in June. Cale tells me he’s been in contact with South Dakota State, Indiana State, Liberty, North Dakota, North Dakota State, and South Dakota the most. If he continues to work hard and play as well as he has so far this summer the D1 interest will turn into offers, and it only takes one for more to come calling.
