The lean 6-foot-7, 185 forward made the jump to varsity ball this past season at Westview and was a big part of the Wildcats success. This off-season he’s looking to build off of things playing club ball with International Elite, hoping to generate some college looks while expanding his game for his senior season.
This past season, Grady was a key frontcourt contributor, averaging 5.7 points while shooting 62.5 percent from the field. “Last year went really well for me as I wasn’t really even expecting to be on varsity until tryouts hit and that was an option,” Grady said. “It was lots of fun. I definitely got a lot better from the jump from JV to varsity and I feel like the biggest thing was the pace. It’s a lot faster on varsity and I got used to that throughout the season.”
Grady has continued to challenge himself this off-season, joining International Elite and playing on their 17U squad. “I feel like it’s been a lot more competitive – everyone is one of the best players on their (high school) team,” Grady said. “I’m getting a lot of good competition, some of the best I can find right now, and that will definitely prepare me for next year.”
It’s clear that Grady has a really soft touch around the basket. Part of his goals this off-season have been focusing on expanding his game. “I definitely have been playing in the post most of my life so this summer and last summer I’ve been working on wing skills,” Grady said. “I think that will prepare me best for college.”
Grady is a high-academic performer who has already been in touch with Division III power Whitworth. Academics are definitely important to him as he stays open in the process. “I’m definitely just looking to play college basketball, that’s always been a dream for me,” Grady said. “I want to study business and have a good school to fall back on if basketball doesn’t work out.”
Grady and International Elite just finished playing in tournaments in Sacramento and Oklahoma this past week where he was one of the team’s most consistent performers. He currently ranks as the #80 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2021 rankings.
