The tournament features a variety of different pools which all essentially feed into a bracket for the final two days of the tournament. This specific article covers the Top 5 Standouts in Pools A-D on just Thursday, July 23rd. These are the athletes that stood out to me personally, and I felt had a great impact in their games today.
Augustine Chibuko – 3D Eagles Elite – 2022 – F 6’4
A player that came to be the star of the show and the owner of Green Court 3 was Augustine. The kid came out the tunnel ready to kill, and he did this by dropping a crucial 15 points with his silky smooth jump shot. But the most impressive attribute isn’t just his jump shot, it is, in fact, his ability to create space out of nothing. I have never seen someone take over a game to that extent. In a game against Kingdom Performance, he essentially put his younger teammates on his back, and they were able to beat the team that was a whole year above them. Augustine is one to watch as we progress into the bracket this weekend.
DJ Jefferson – Texas Impact 4:13 – 2022 – G 6’4
DJ is the man that just knows how to put the ball at the bottom of the hoop, and there is no one that can come close to disrupting that. He can score from beyond the arc as well as in the paint shifting his way through traffic. I think Jefferson is a special player that takes his personal abilities to enhance his teammates on the floor alongside him. If he isn’t the best scorer coming out of this tournament on Sunday then I really don’t know who will be. Also, keep in mind that this kid is also only going to be a Junior next year which just only allows for more room for improvement.
Hayden Lacy – Texas Tarheels – 2021 – F 6’3
I don’t care who you put on this kid, he will somehow still manage to get putback rebounds. Hayden had to cover Big Shak from Team F.O.E. Elite, and he did insanely well with his ability to maneuver around him grabbing boards as well as blocking shots. Counting up his points and rebounds, he was only two points shy of a double-double. He is one of the best hustlers in this tournament, and I think this Texas Tarheels team is able to play well with him as well as the other weapons they have.
James Hussey – Team F.O.E. Elite – 2021 – G 6’4
This kid actually makes me smile when watching him play because he really shows that you’ve never seen a more fluid jump shot until you’ve seen the likes of Mr. Hussey himself. They slide this kid the ball on the 3 point line, and he barries it while also getting back to cause destruction on the defensive end. This combination of Hussey and his F.O.E. boys just gets me hyped thinking about them play. The main man Jones had 4 made threes against the Tarheels, and honestly, if you come to Duncanville or tune into the live streams at all this weekend, come to or click on a Team F.O.E. Elite game, you might find something you like.
Kevin Daniels – AGA Mayfield – 2021 – G 6’2
Speed kills and that will never change in the game of basketball because it is such a difference-maker when it comes to scoring on one end as well as getting back to defend on the other end. But honestly, speed is just the beginning of Daniels’s reputable attributes. His intensity, hustle, leadership, and quickness are all qualities that filter into this 6’2 guard. In my opinion, he might just be a coach’s ideal player. Kevin is a player that I hope gets the recognition he deserves as he continues his summer with AGA Mayfield.
