This tournament was a fantastic showcase of all of the talent present in the midwest, many of which will receive a major uptick in recruiting! Be on the lookout for the rest of my coverage from this event!
Eric Lail 2022 6’2 Magic 16U Jon- Henry Sibley High School
Eric is a great shooter off the bounce, he gets a ton of buckets in the mid-range. He is a great shooter from three-point range when he gets feet set. He is a reliable shooter when left alone, yet is creative enough to take his defenders on especially after they begin to fear his shot-making ability closing out hard. I would like to see more work creating for others and improving his consistency and strength to finish around the rim with either hand.
Mekhi Shaw 2022 5’10 PM Showcase 16U Eau Claire Memorial High School
Mekhi is a guard who loves taking on bigger defenders at the rim, he has no fear when he goes up for layups and is great at drawing contact. His ability to get reliable offense from the line was very impressive and very infuriating for opposing coaches. I would like to see more development in his kick-out passes when he goes up, he missed a few easy dump-off passes to his bigs after drawing a second defender sliding over to protect the rim.
Nick Bartlett Nick Bartlett 6'0" | PG Forest Lake | 2022 State MN 2022 6’0 MN Crossfire Terhaar- Forest Lake High School
Nick is a confident ball-handler with great scoring ability and true point guard skills. He is good at firing crisp passes right into the shooting pocket. He makes smart passes when he is in trouble and moves well without the ball for spot-up jumpers. He has good length for a guard and is great at getting downhill. I would like to see him pick his head up when driving because he draws so much attention when getting to the rim he missed a few skip kick-out passes. However, his long arms allowed him to finish at the rim with ease around defenders.
Michael Skemp 2022 6’3 MN Lightning Lyga 16U- Onalaska High School
Michael is a scrappy guard who hits the floor for loose balls. His energy and hustle brought life to his team and he helped initiate full-court offense with ease. He is smart at utilizing angles to get by defenders and get into the paint. He can initiate offense and fire passes into the post and found teammates diving to the rim over the top and on a bounce depending on the situation. I would like to see more development in his shot off the bounce in the mid-range and behind the arc. Openning up all three levels of his game would improve his game tremendously.
