This tournament was a fantastic showcase of all of the talent present in the midwest, many of which will receive a major uptick in recruiting! Be on the lookout for the rest of my coverage from this event!
Hogan Sawyer 2022 5’9 Magic 16U Jon- Jefferson High School
Hogan is a lightning-quick guard who plays intense on and off-ball defense always moving to disrupt a teams offense. On the offensive side of the ball, he is a great player off the ball and moves to find open shots and get his feet set. He plays the game with great awareness and always seems to fire the right pass into his teammates. He loves getting hard tough angled passes into the paint and loves being creative with his distribution.
Tyler McBride 2022 5’10 PM Showcase 16U Shaw Eau Claire Memorial High School
Tyler is an aware guard who loves to drive and get into the teeth of the defense and make tough passes out to his shooters. He showed a great ability to make the right read and fire crisp passes across the court to open teammates as well. In transition, he is great at setting up teammates with bounce passes that hit them in stride or passes over the top with just enough touch. I would like to see more confidence in his pull up jumper and increase his amount of looks at the rim.
Phillip Sheetz 2022 5’10 PM North Premiere 16U Schmitz- Moose Lake High School
Phillip is a scrappy defender who plays the passing lanes well and gives 110% on both ends of the floor. His hustle and relentless energy resulted in turnovers for his team and extra rebounds on numerous possessions. He is a player every coach loves to have, one that is not afraid to put his body on the line to draw charges, get on the floor and get up under the skin of his opponents.
Gage Manahan 2022 5’9 MN Lightning Ellerbusch 16U- Austin High School
Gage is an athletic guard who excels and really thrives on his ability to finish at the rim. His athleticism and ability to drive by people allow him to thrive in the open floor and had multiple strong coast to coast finishes. He showed an ability to contort his body away from defenders and contact around the rim. On the defensive side of the ball, he is good at moving his feet and rarely gets beat off the dribble.
AJ Kaul 2022 6’3 MN Crossfire Barker- Blaine High School
AJ is a confident guard who plays with a swagger and a palpable calmness to his game. He loves to shoot off the catch and has the range of Trae Young, firing from anywhere behind the arc. His ability to create space with a live dribble and effectively get into his shooting motion was very impressive. He is very skilled at getting his shot off over anyone, but I would like to see a bigger focus on his ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim.
