With it being the first time since February or March that any Kentucky kid has played a true 5 on 5 game, some were rusty. Others looked bigger and stronger or had clearly been working on their games. Here are some rising Juniors who shined.
Maker Bar Maker Bar 6'9" | C Ballard | 2022 State KY , Ballard/Louisville Magic – Bar was impressive on Saturday when I caught him in Gold bracket action. Maker has become more comfortable putting the ball on the floor and was attempting to play out on the wing more than usual. The results were mixed but he’s still a good rim protector and rebounder who finished well around the hoop.
Luke Imfeld Luke Imfeld 6'1" | SG Boyle County | 2022 State KY , Boyle County/Kentucky Future Elite – Imfeld has clearly been working on his body and improving his athleticism over the break. He is noticeably bigger in the arms and polished off a dunk you can see in the clip below. Imfeld has always been a volume scorer but as he grows and keeps developing, he has legitimate D1 upside.

Mitchell Rylee Mitchell Rylee 6'8" | C Covington Catholic | 2022 State KY , Beechwood/Griffin Elite – Mitchell is one of the true post prospects in the class and used his 6’8 frame to block and alter shots all day Saturday. He’s still improving as a finisher and Rylee’s defense is ahead of his offense right now but his ceiling is high thanks to his size and solid athletic ability.
Sam Powell Sam Powell 6'7" | PF Oldham County | 2022 State KY , Oldham County/HLB – Powell figures to have a bigger role at Oldham as a Junior and is off to a good start to his summer. He averaged over 16 points and 5 rebounds per game on the weekend with a high scoring game of 22 in tournament play. Sam can play inside and out and should be a bigger part of a loaded Colonel team.
