Max Christie to Michigan State
It has been rumored for the last several weeks that Michigan State had taken a commanding lead in the recruitment of Rolling Meadows superstar Max Christie Max Christie 6'4" | SG Rolling Meadows | 2021 State #12 Nation IL . It was made official on Tuesday morning as the top prospect in 2021 and regardless of class in the state of Illinois made his announcement for Michigan State.
What are the Spartans getting? The long and wiry two guard has such a feathery jump shot from all over the floor. Hits off the catch, can create his own shot off the dribble, and is improving his fade away game out of the post. Just an effortless player that makes everything look so easy on the floor.
The Spartans had to beat out some major competition for the five star including Duke who many considered the favorite from the moment they offered. This is the first Illinois prospect to go to East Lansing since Alvin Ellis in the 2014 class. The Spartans have swung and missed on several five stars over the years in Illinois in Jabari Parker, Cliff Alexander, and Jahlil Okafor who at certain times Michigan State was considered in the top group for during their recruitments. Major credit goes to Tom Izzo, Dane Fife, and Dwayne Stephens for winning this recruiting battle for one of the premier wings in the country.
A key question now will be is if the top 2022 nationally Emoni Bates reclassify to join Christie in the fall of 2021 in East Lansing? Bates committed to the Spartans recently and that would be the makings of a national title type team.
Another note with this commitment is now with Christie off the board in the state of Illinois there is only one prospect remaining in the top seven overall in the PHI 2021 Rankings which is #5 John Poulakidas John Poulakidas 6'6" | SF Nequa Valley | 2021 State #155 Nation IL of Neuqua Valley. It wouldn’t shock us to see him pull the trigger in the not too distant future either.
The 2021 class in Illinois is making moves and today #1 had his day!
