Continue ReadingAs we now enter the month of July, we’ve seen some areas scale back on their restrictions when it comes to COVID-19. We now are seeing some AAU teams hold workouts or scrimmages that are open to some scouts or being streamed online. Any progress is good in comparison to the beginning of this pandemic. The recruiting news continues to roll on as 2021 prospects face a unique senior year. Uncertain if there will be on campus visits allowed in the fall will determine how fast commitments come in.
Nevertheless, let’s take a look at the recruiting news over the last week.
OFFERS
2021 DeMatha guard Jordan Hawkins Jordan Hawkins 6'5" | SF DeMatha | 2021 State #41 Nation MD has been the biggest stock riser of his class locally and he keeps the momentum going this past week by adding offers from Maryland and Texas. I’ve said before that before it’s all over that I believe one or two blue blood programs will peek into Hawkins with his elite outside shot, good length and athleticism at 6-foot-5 to go with a pro approach to the game.
2021 Bullis guard Erik Reynolds Erik Reynolds 6'2" | CG Bullis | 2021 State #197 Nation MD received an offer from Xavier last night. The Musketeers are the third Big East program to offer the lead guard along with Georgetown and Seton Hall. Sitting at 15 total offers, it wouldn’t surprise me to see one or two more Big East programs get involved sooner rather than later.
2021 McDonogh Jared Billups Jared Billups 6'5" | SF McDonogh | 2021 State MD was offered by Holy Cross. Billups now has 11 total offers, majority of which are from the Patriot League. Billups could see some CAA programs get involved before the summer wraps up thanks to his versatility on both ends and good size at 6-foot-6.
2021 Frederick Douglas forward Abdou Samb Abdou Samb 6'8" | C Frederick Douglass | 2021 State MD added an offer from George Mason yesterday. The 6-foot-8 shot blocker who can also stretch the floor offensively now holds 10 total offers. The Patriots are his first A-10 school to extend an offer to Samb.
2022 Wilson wing Darren Buchanan Jr. Darren Buchanan Jr. 6'7" | PF Woodrow Wilson | 2022 State #101 Nation MD was offered by George Washington, his first A-10 offer to date. Bryant, North Texas and Seton Hall have also extended offers to the top player in 2022 MD/DC player rankings.
2022 Sidwell Friends forward George Perkins George Perkins 6'8" | PF Sidwell Friends | 2022 State MD received an offer from Maryland. The Terps are Perkins’ first offer from a Power 5 conference school and his fourth offer total. Perkins is a 6-foot-8 forward with an intriguing skill set and potential to be a versatile option at the wing or forward at the collegiate level.
2022 Poly guard Bryce Lindsay Bryce Lindsay 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2022 State MD received an offer from Mount St. Mary’s. Lindsay’s name has been heavily involved in conversations among the low and mid major programs in the Mid-Atlantic. A deadly three-point shooter, Lindsay should have plenty of opportunity to display other aspects of his game going forward at Poly.
DePaul extended offers to a trio of 2022 Gonzaga players including Judah Mintz, Jared Turner Jared Turner 6'8" | SF Gonzaga | 2022 State MD and Devin Dinkins Devin Dinkins 5'10" | PG Gonzaga | 2022 State MD . All three hold at least a handful of offers each with Mintz gaining the most attention from high major programs.
2022 Gilman guard Christian Winborne Christian Winborne 6'2" | CG Gilman | 2022 State #199 Nation MD received an offer from Southeast Missouri. Winborne is being courted by a number of low major programs and I’m confident in stating that if there was a spring/summer travel season, mid major programs would be intertwined within his recruitment.
2023 Poly Kwame Evans Kwame Evans 6'9" | SF Montverde | 2023 State #20 Nation FL picked up an offer from Maryland last night. The 6-foot-9 wing has become a focal point for a number of high major programs after a strong freshman season on a nationally ranked Engineers squad.
