2022 6-4 PF Fisher Mitchell – Georgia Legacy – Sequoyah
Another key piece to Georgia Legacy’s success, Fisher Mitchell played his role admirably and provided great consistency. In both games he scored 7 points with a made three in each. He averaged 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1 block per game. Mitchell doesn’t fit the mold of today’s post player. He’s not 6-foot-7 or jumping out of the gym, but what he is doing is affecting the game positively however he can. He’s a solid rebounder for his size and is a floor spacer that can pull out shot blockers to clear driving lanes for teammates. Mitchell has a baby hook and a nice shimmy shake with his back to the basket. Defensively, he bodies up well and contests shots. Mitchell is a trusted post that can be tossed in the fire and can be relied upon to execute. He will see a much bigger role this upcoming season in Hickory Flat.
2023 6-2 PF Nathan Rodriguez Nathan Rodriguez 6'3" | C North Paulding | 2023 State GA – NME – North Paulding
The undersized post didn’t disappoint. Nathan Rodriguez Nathan Rodriguez 6'3" | C North Paulding | 2023 State GA is a throwback post presence that has every move in the book in his arsenal with his back to the basket. Post play is a dying breed but it’s refreshing to see players like Rodriguez be successful in their craft. He understands angles and how to use his body to negate shot blockers. Rodriguez finishes with both hands and has nimble footwork inside to catch defenders off balance. He had 14 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists and dominated inside during a stretch in the second half.
2021 6-5 F Franklin Almonte Franklin Almonte 6'6" | PF Dalton | 2021 State GA – Atlanta All-Stars – Dalton
All Franklin Almonte Franklin Almonte 6'6" | PF Dalton | 2021 State GA knows how to do is play hard and rebound. One of the nation’s best glass cleaners, averaging 22.6 points, 17.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 2.2 steals and 2 blocks per game, Almonte brought that same tenacity to LakePoint. Every time I looked up, Almonte was in position to sky in for a rebound. His uncanny nose for the ball coupled with his springy legs makes him elite at what he specializes in. Almonte had 2 points, 7 rebounds and 1 block.
2022 6-6 F Izaiyah Nelson Izaiyah Nelson 6'8" | PF Marietta | 2022 State GA – Lights Out Ballers – Marietta
Up to the challenge of facing Team Forrest’s massive frontline, Izaiyah Nelson Izaiyah Nelson 6'8" | PF Marietta | 2022 State GA ’s versatility and effort made a huge impact. The inside-out forward posted 18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Nelson, known for his shot blocking and rebounding, showed that his three-point shot is continuing to develop. He sank two corner threes and helped stretch out the defense to open lanes for teammates. Nelson runs the floor and can steal some minutes on the wing, even though he will need to work on his agility a little more to be able to stay out there full time. Nelson has plenty of talent and games like Saturday give Marietta fans something to look forward to.
2021 6-10 PF Isaiah Nelson-Ododa Isaiah Nelson-Ododa 6'10" | PF Winder Barrow | 2021 State GA – Aim High – Winder-Barrow
The steady developing spindly post had his best game vs. NME, going for 15 points, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks. Nelson-Ododa runs the floor exceptionally well and has good hands to catch on the run. He beat his man down the floor numerous times and was able to finish easily. When he chooses to, Nelson-Ododa can simply shoot over top of defenders out of the post with his turnaround and hook shot. On faceup opportunities, he has quick enough feet to beat his man baseline. I think he could develop into a heck of an offensive player with a little more seasoning.
